What's a 'Bump'?

All these months now on this forum, and I see 'Bump' on a few threads here and there. Can you please tell me what this is all about?

    I think a bump is when you want to thread to go to the top of this list.

    I have brought up a thread before. Posted to it . Then when you look at todays posts the thread is at the top of the list. You have bumped it to the top of the list.
