Combining protein

Is there any reason why I can't mix a packet of Protein powder with a ready-to-drink Protein shake to get a double hit of protein? Thanks.

The main reason is that we only can digest about 25 grams of protein at a time. If you do double the protein you would probably need to drink 1/2 at a later time.

@@TinyTink - Isn't that an interesting fact? I too was told this by my NUT (asked her the exact same question you posted) but there are so many products such as Protein shots where people think they can get all their protein in at one shot. Weird that isn't something that is more strongly promoted (that we can't absorb more than 25g I mean).

@@TinyTink - LOL! Good point!

I kinda look at it in a different way. Shove it however much you can. 25, 25, 45, . I try to get as much Protein as I can. You may eat or drink that 25 grams thinking that isthe limit, but there is no way to be certain the body is going to process all of that protein. You may only absorb half of it and pass the rest.

So why miss out on any opportunity. I eat or drink as much as I can comfortably consume and let my body sort out what it can handle. ;)

@@Recycled - I understand your thinking and I can't say that I limit my Protein to only 25g per hour. (For example, Premier Protein shakes are 30g and easily drank in less than an hour.) The only issue is for those early out and maybe only aiming for 60g protein in the first place and then assuming a 40g Protein Drink in the morning or a 40g protein shot gets them 2/3rds of the way done for the day. If we aren't consuming enough protein, then it could really cause a problem. If we are getting 80g or more in total for the day, then we might be ok.
