Hi, I am getting banded June 5th next Tuesday and I am wondering what it is like when you first wake up ? How is the pain and what did you feel like that day ? Also I have a 1yr old and she weighs over 25lbs. My Dr said I shouldnt lift that much weight for a couple of weeks and hubby has to work, so just wondering if any of you have a little one and had to think of how to handle not lifting ? One more question, what to expect the day of surgery ? I am nervous about being put out because I have such an allergic reaction when I wake with vomiting, the last time I was put out was 9yrs ago, the nurse told me the anti-nausa meds have improved so much since then, I hope so. Oh also I watched the video of the lap band surgery and now I wished I hadnt it looks kind of scary, the way the liver sits on the band it seem weird that the liver would not get irritated by where the band hooks together, you know laying on something like a plastic where the liver is delicate. Dont mean to ramble , I am just excited and have so many questions and concerns. I am having a hard time sleeping knowing it is getting closer a foolish thought I know I will not sleep the night before I go in , I even worry that if I am exhausted that it will make it hard for me to wake up haha. I know that one is foolish but I am sure all of you did some serious thinking as it approached. I hope and pray that I am doing the right thing and it goes smoothly, especially where it is a surgery of choice I think it make me worry more than if it was something I knew I had to have. Ps the Dr I am going to has done over 300 of these is that good ? No idea. Sounds like he has plenty of experience but dont have anything to compare it to:)

Hi Kim--welcome and good luck with everythiing. When I woke up from anesthesia, I just felt groggy. Not a lot of pain until I had to get up and walk. The most pain I had was that day, trying to get up and down from my chair, and get into and out of the car. There will also be some gas pains from the anesthesia--have some gas-X on hand for that. It is so exciting, though. I was anxious and nervous and scared, too, but in the end, it turned out to be the best decision I have ever made, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. As for not lifting--do you have any family or friends that could come and stay a few days at least to help with your little one? I think that would really help, especially with a one year old. I can't imagine having to run around after a toddler right after surgery. Good luck with everything, and keep us posted on your progress!

I was extremely groggy. How is the pain and what did you feel like that day ?Right when I woke up, I had quite a bit of pain, but they quickly injected some morphine into my IV and I was OK...so it was only a couple of minutes. After that it wasn't so bad. No problems sitting up, moving or walking. Also I have a 1yr old and she weighs over 25lbs. I told them going in that I got extremely nauseous with anesthesia and they gave me phenergan in my IV. I had no problems with it.

I just kept putting one foot in front of the other, y'know? ...and I stayed the heck away from the complications forum!

I hope and pray that I am doing the right thing and it goes smoothly, especially where it is a surgery of choice I think it make me worry more than if it was something I knew I had to have.This band has been a blessing to me and I am very, very grateful that I had it done.

Obviously, that's rare. 300 seems like a reasonable amount of experience.

My experience was little pain. I told them I am ready to walk that hall way. The nurse laughed and said lets let you drink something first.

I slept all evening and night after my two hour ride home (about 430 pm) . Surgery was at 930 am . Woke up in recovery room at 10:15 am!!!

I had soreness for next two days only when I forgot and bent over to pick up something (dog toys).

OOps, I wanted to say (without children) I waited 7 days before doing my normal duties. I am a dog groomer.

My doctor gave me a seasick-like patch behind my ear a few hours before surgery, I had no nausea at all and I usually get violently ill from the anesthesia. It worked wonders! He had me keep it on for 3 days to avoid any nausea after the fact. You may want to call and ask them about it, it may help you. Also, I was a little sore after surgery and for a few days after, never took anything stronger than liquid tylenol on the 2nd day. The gas pain kicked my butt a little, I had pain in the back of my shoulders and under my ribs in front. But, I walked around a bit like people on the threads suggested, and it really helped alot- so did the heating pad. Good luck!
