Disappointed and Hiatal Hernia

So yesterday I had the EDG (scope) as I'm progressing towards surgery. My preference is the gastric sleeve, well they found a Hiatal Hernia :-( So now the option is gastric bypass. I'm not wanting to go that route at all ! I don't know what to do now. I have a follow up appointment in two weeks.

Has anyone had a Hiatal Hernia and still was able to have VSG?

  • Had the same and it was repaired during the sleeve operation. I would not have gone along with the operation if a bypass was my only option, nasty option. I love this sleeve and have not regretted it

  • There are several people here who have had a hiatal hernia and gotten the VSG. The surgeon repaired the hernia at the same time as they did the sleeve.

Not to be repetitive, but I had a hiatal hernia that was discovered pre-op and it was fixed during my sleeve surgery. I hope you can sort everything out with your doctor!

I was told the same thing and i was so mad because it took me a year to decide to do the sleeve that i had a melt down on my doc. Afterwards we spoke and he advised it all depended on how bad the hernia was and agreed to review my case again with radiologist and his surgical team. A week later the sleeve was back in play. I got sleeved, esophageal hiatal hernia repair and gall bladder removal 1.6.17 and thankfully all went well. Have a talk with your doc. Good luck.

I had a Hiatal Hernia and was sleeved,2011.I had revision due to acid reflux Nov.22,2016.The hernia failed too. They repair it again when they did the bypass.

Surgery was 1/25, I also had a hernia fixed at the same time. Four days out and I feel pretty good, of course the normal surgery pain. I am so happy I did it. Now to heal and start some sort of exercise plan.. two days in the hospital..
