Dizzy (and I am only dyed blonde)

Recommended Posts

Sorry about my bad sense of humour - no offense to anyone.

I am wondering if any other newly banded is feeling dizzy. I am almost constantly. What do you think it's from? I start full fluids tomorrow, so I was thinking that might help.

To you veterans....did this happen to you? Do you get this after fills?

You know, I think I did get that for the first little while. It's probably just you not getting in enough calories. See if it gets better with you starting full fluids. I *would* ask your clinic though, just to be sure. :(

Hi Susan,

I am feeling quite a bit of dizziness as well. I also feel nausea but not enough to vomit. In addition, I feel weak.

For you or any of those that have been banded before me, is it normal to:

1. feel pain on your chest when you burp?

2. feel tightness (like over full) only after having a few sips of liquid? I can barely drink anything. When I do drink, I feel pain only after a few sips. When I don't drink I feel very dehydrated. What can I do?

Hi Cat,

No nausea and much less weak these days. When I burp it is more of a tightness I feel than pain. I have been able to sip Water and juice quite easily. broth, about 1/2 cup at a time and about 1/2 Jello at a time. I know that Dr. Y is always very concerned about dehydration, therefore I would advise you to call the clinic if you are having trouble sipping Water. Are you siiping slowly? That may help. I used a straw for the first few days and if I took to big a sip held some of the water in my mouth and let it trickle down.

Cat, please let us know how you are doing!!!!

Several possibilities. If indeed you were just banded 3 or 4 days ago, it could be after effects of anesthesia. Some of that is in your system for several weeks.

The more you drink the faster you'll get that out. Are you drinking AT LEAST two liters a day, preferably more?

You could also be dehydrated. And are you getting in any nutrition.

Remember, you've had major surgery, and though you should be drinking and walking, it takes a while to get back to "normal".

I am feeling dizzy as well. It also hurts when I burp. Altough i am able to drink Water easily. I am also looking forward to be on full fluids because I am felling weak. I think all this is part of the process. But i would watch that you do not get dehydrated. One question though does anybodys back hurt.

The back pain is from gas most likely. The dizziness could also be from pain meds. I was dizzy from lack of calories. It will get better each day. ~Mandy

You've only been banded five days. Back or shoulder pain is normal. It is a referred pain from your diaphragm, which gets stressed and stretched during the surgery. It will pass, though the more you walk the quicker it will go away.

As noted already, you've been on drugs...anesthesia, and that's probably it. And you're perhaps dehydrated. You're NOT starving, except mentally. You could go a month with NO food. You wouldn't be happy, but wouldn't die. Now Water is VERY different. Just be sure you get in a couple of quarts a day.

I wouldn't think anyone should need any more pain meds than tylenol (acetominophen) after the first couple days. And that won't cause the dizziness as long as taking a normal amount. Remember, no aspirin or ibuprofen or similar.

If I take half the prescribed dose of pain meds I am dizzy. I took pain meds at night for 5 days. Only liquid Adult strength tylenol during the day. Some people need pain meds for several days. I know of a few bandsters that were still hurting a week post-op. Everyone has a different experience with banding. ~Mandy

Hi Susan,

Thank you for your concern. I am doing much better now. I took your advice and stuck to using the straw. That really helped. Since yesterday, I have been able to drink more. In general, I still get full (and hungry) very fast. My burping does not hurt as much now.

I am so excited to be progressing through these stages. I am on full Fluid today. How are you doing with your full Fluid?

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
