Deductible

My drs office told me today that I have to finish paying my deductible, AND pay the up front drs charge. This vill be over $4,000 for me. Is this a common thing?

    It really depends on your insurance provider. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and they have a WLS deductable of $5,000. Between the doctor and the hosptial charges, that's what I spent.

    Yes, a lot of doctors/hospitals require you pay your deductible up front. And this isn't just for WLS. My work partner had to pay her OOP in full before her hysterectomy. I had to pay my max OOP in full prior to my neck fusion surgery.
