Payment on the Day Of Surgery ?

Hello all,

I was just wondering if any of you paid your out of pocket expense on the day of surgery?

I had my pre-admission testing done last week and they didn't ask me for any payments.

Surgery is tomorrow and they told me to leave jewelry, money and things at home.

Kind of confused! N

Any answer is much appreciated.

I paid everything at my pre-admit except the anesthesiologist, who came into my room just before surgery and asked for payment.

That's crazy!!! Was that thru insurance?

Wow! You are in your hospital bed and he comes in and asks for payment before you go in for surgery? Ha, can I just say that was "ballsy.!" :-)

Business as usual where I was banded. Had to pay my copay to the hospital when I was admitted. If I'm not mistaken, I had to give them around $800 or so. I see you are from Jersey so you are likely familiar with NYU. So, if a hospital as big as NYU Langone will ask for money up front, don't be surprised if you have to do the same. So...yes, make sure you have your credit card just in case.... and if you don't need it, just give it to whomever comes with you to the hospital.

No I was self pay. Yeah, I was a little peeved about it myself. Its not like I wasn't going to pay them. They could have just sent me a bill. But she walked in as I'm being hooked up to the IV and about to be strolled into surgery and said, you owe $1250.00 please, we need payment now. Geez!

Ok, so since it was a she I change my wording from ballsy to gutsy. Hehee. Regardless, I think they could have worked out the collection process with a bit more class.

I agree. My husband just shook his head at her in disgust. I told him to just give me my check book so I can pay her and get this over with. I was a bit nervous and she didn't help matters by pissing me off right before surgery. But oh well. It's done and over and everyone is paid...and I'm happy and loving my sleeve :)
