HELP Fill problems

Had a .4 fill added to my band almost a week ago and think she missed my port and put the saline in my muscle. Anyone else ever dealt with this?

nope. my doctor always removes what fill is in there to get a true measurement and than adds to it. this way she knows she is in the port and how much is in my band. call your doctor for a appt.

Why do you think she missed the port?

Because I have a massive bruise and a huge knot in the muscle where she accessed my port . I have been banded for almost 5 years and have had my band adjusted several times and never had any problems. Plus it hasn't felt any tighter this time. And I can always feel the difference

Can't explain your bruise and knot since my port is on top of my ab muscles. It would be difficult for my doc to miss the port since it protrudes so high.

The port is quite hard and one would think an experienced doc or nurse could tell the difference between soft muscle tissue and the density and hardness of the port?

I suppose it's possible to miss and hit the muscle but I had 4 fills that didn't present any kind of noticeable difference in restriction.

I have read where there were those who had fills that missed their port, so it is possible.

I have had the PA in my office just miss my port as well and have to try again. They always check to ensure they are in the port by pulling back to pull some Fluid out ensuring the needle is in the port before pressing forward. It can happen where they hit the side of the port as well and they need to position it again. I have had that happen as well.

I didn't get a bruise or any markings from the miss, just a little needle pinch. If capillary were punctured during the fill I could see where you might have a bruise. Sometimes when hubby gets his fill he will have a little black and blue at the port site it's not from the muscle but from the dermis.

Even if by chance they missed the port completely, it's just saline and the body would absorb it pretty quickly. They would know if they missed it immediately. When you hit the floor of the port, it's hard like a rock.
