PICC line question

Recommended Posts

I got the call on valentines day for my surgery. I will be having the surgery on March 5th at 8:30 am. I have to go on the 3rd at 11:00 for my Pre-op appointment with my surgeon and then on the 4th I have to go at 3:00 to get a PICC line. Did anyone else have to get one before your surgery? Can you explain why it is needed?

I am so excited and ready but the nerves are starting to kick in now that I have a date!

Curious what the answer to this is! I've never heard of anyone getting a PICC line for this!!!

Nope. Never heard of it. I had one for complications from my band but not for surgery. I would double check that for sure.

Hiya

I had to have a Pic Line. I was given this because my veins are flat and thin and hard to get to.

My Pic line went on the underside of the top of my arm...best thing ever...it saved me from constantly being stuck...I ended up having a low potassium level and had 4 bags of it via the pic line.

Once it's in, you won't know it's there.

Good luck on your surgery x

I had to have a pic line after surgery also. My veins were so bad they couldn't keep sticking me time after time. All your Iv medicines shots bloodwork will all come from this line and you won't feel it. It was a blessing. Already in tremendous pain after surgery not getting stuck so many tines .

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
