Waiting game

So I had my insurance turned in last Thursday. I called today and they said it could take three weeks for an answer and then I will schedule an all day appointment with a class and labs and such. That is when I will receive my surgery date. That is all if I get approved at all. I am on tri west which just was taken over by united healthcare, they say I'm good to go but my doc office says I don't have enough diet documentation. This is so frustrating.

I am going to agree with you it has to be very frustrating, especially I feel your doctor's office should have outlined all that you needed before they would do the surgery. They deal daily with different insurance companies, they also have their own protocol that they want, so as far as I'm concerned a competent office would have said we are going to need this, this and this before we submit to insurance then once the approval comes back we will set the dates. I knew I would be switching insurances on 6/1/13 and told them who I would have and my doctors office told me everything I would need for the approval, and what they would want, so I started everything the first part of May and will have surgery 9/11/13. It took my new insurance two business days for approval when the nurse said it would be two weeks. But of course this is my opinion as this will be my second WLS and it was another set of hoops I had to jump through and a different doctor's office from my first. Hope all turns out well for you and they do have everything they need.

Well, I got approved by insurance and the doctors office called me and said I hadn't been seen in a while and needed to come in for a follow up. I went in and found out there were a bunch of labs I needed to have done that they never told me about. The doctor said that was the only thing keeping me from being scheduled. I have been on the phone with the doctors office for months trying to find out if there is anything I needed to get done. They never mentioned that. So I've had the labs done, got them sent to the doctor and now I'm waiting for the doctor to review my file and send it on to the surgeons. I was told that would take a few days to a week and that was on Monday. If I don't hear anything tomorrow from them I'm going to have to call and bug them again next Monday. I want this done!

What kind of labs did you have done? My doc already scheduled surgery on 11/5 but I guess I find out about the labs on my follow-up appt on 10/25.

I had to have 8 or 9 vials of blood drawn. It ranged from the usual blood sugar check to thyroid check. It was quite a list. My lab was great though and got them processed very quickly.

I was told at my dr that surgery had to be scheduled within 30 days of your bloodwork being done because its only good for 30 days.
