March Surgery Dates

I've seen topics where members having surgery in the same month have kinda banded together to offer support and encouragement to one another. I think this is a wonderful idea, and I'd like to see if there's anyone having surgery in March that would like to support one another.

I have a tentative date for the second or third week in March. I have UHC through Georgia Pacific and they use BRS for approvals. I don't expect any delays, nor does my surgeon's office, so she saved me a spot, so to speak, lol.

Tonight I have my psyc eval, and Monday is my information class, I have two more visits, 2/5 and 3/5 of my six month supervised diet, and on March 5th when I leave my PCP's office, I'll take my worksheet to the surgeon and we'll submit to insurance. That's where I'm at!

I'd love to talk with others that are looking at the same time frame as me!! :D

I am probably the grandma of the group. I am 60 and my grandson is 11 and my granddaughter is 9.

Bought myself a bike a couple of years ago and then required a hip replacement and could not ride it. Turned out the hip did not heal well and I have been walking around with a loose rod in my leg for two years and it hurts. It was to have been revised on 10/26 and the cancelled it about an hour before I was to leave for the hospital as my surgeon and his partner were going to do it together at the smaller hospital, closer to me. It turned out that the hospital was simply not equipped for some things that are very likely to happen and it will be done at the big hospital across the state from me as soon as I heal well enough from the WLS. That is going to be a biggie and will haveme hobbling about on a walker for a long time.

We go to music festivals in the summer and my goal is to be able to be without a walker and able to ride my bike. I had my husband put a basket on the front and folding side baskets over the back fender so I could use it to go to the local stores. Oh, and I see I even have a pink hat and a pink & purple horn.

Add me to the list! March 15 for me!

I've also been shopping a little bit, bought some broth, vitamins, crystal light, ISOPURE (fruit), apple juice (low sugar), white grape juice. I don't want to overstock as I've heard taste sometimes changes so I'd rather try a little bit of everything and then buy some of what I can tolerate/like best. ISOPURE (looks like gatorade) is pretty expensive but has 40g of protein per bottle, my doctor recommends it, so I guess it is great for post op. Anyone else tried something different? I can't wait for 3/11 !!!!! :)

I stocked up too, but tried some of the stuff I hadn't had and if I can take it now, for pre-op, then I am taking it back to Vitamin shoppe for an exchange. The vitamins and Calcium citrates suck, next I need to check to anthrax nectar lemon tea protein tub I bought....

I bought the one a day gummies and the citracal chewables, they are not bad at all... have you tried those?

I was told the gummies aren't always good due to stricture issues and small openings

Bummer!!!... I hope I don't have to go to liquid vitamins.. I've heard they taste awful!!! :(

I heard add it to drinks with an extract of some kind can cut down on the bitterness.

I was told not to stock up on vitamins b/c we'll be needing bariatric vitamins that are designed four the malsorption aspect of our new pouches. Maybe it's something you'd like to ask your physician about?

GREAT tip! I will surely ask during my next visit!!

This is the schedule recommended by the ASMBS, however, your doctor may want something different ~

Breakfast – multi, B12, B complex (if you take that), D3 (if you take that)

lunch – 500 mg calcium citrate (you can take your D3 here too if you want to spread the pills out more and have less to take with breakfast)

Snack - 500 mg calcium citrate

dinner – multi, Iron, Vitamin C

Bedtime – 500 mg calcium citrate

These schedules have you taking the Vitamins recommended by the ASMBS, along with taking Vitamin C with your iron because then you’ll absorb that iron better. If you pair your vitamins up with meals, it gets easier to remember them, I think. And it doesn’t matter if you sleep late or go to bed early or whatever, because it’s not a certain time of day you take them, it’s just whenever you eat breakfast or go to bed.

I have also been stocking up on sugar free foods and clear broths and the vitamins I have to take now and after surgery. I'm taking bariatric fusion vitamin chewables. They have all the requirement for post bypass people and I have to take 4 a day instead of multiple different vitamins. I also heard the same thing about gummies from my DR but my chewable vitamins are actually really good. So overall, I'm already....I've got all the stuff for my liquid diet and probably the first 2 weeks after surgery. Now I'm just re-reading my goals to make sure I have everything completed before my pre op date. Excited :) come on march 6th!!! P.s. down 22 lbs since my first visit jan 10th :)
