Anemia Preop

Hello all,

I am new to this thread. I must admit I have been lurking for a few months. This surgery didn't seem that real to me till yesterday when I had my first surgery consult. I have dr. Hahn at kaiser fremont He said I am a good candidate but I must first find out what is causing my anemia. My anemia levels have been up and down for years. But he won't do surgery until he knows the cause. Have any of you had problems with this before?

I have had borderline anemia. Mine was a result of low iron stores

What did you do to bring your levels up? My surgeon said we need to find the cause of it before I can proceed ie ulcer, sickle cell anemia, cancer.

High dose Bariatric chewable iron tabs. 60 mg each x 3 but that was prescribed. If that hadn't worked I would have had more testing to see what issue was but I responded well and now are in normal range. Took 3 months
