September 16, 200619 yr I'mTutor. Just banded 9/13/06. I am experiencing sharp pain to the left of my belly-button. Could this be infection? I have alot of bruising also around my port. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?
September 16, 200619 yr I started a new thread with your question, Tutor, because this way a lot more people will see it. Welcome to LBT! My take on your symptoms is that anything in the immediate post-op period is likely normal. Internal pains might be stitches dissolving or muscles reverting back after the gas leaves your body, and of course anything might itself be a gas pain. If you have redness/swelling/heat anywhere on your abdomen, that could be a sign of infection and you should absolutely call your doctor. Bruising is probably just a holdover from surgery. If you have any questions you should call your doctor, and congratulations on your banding!
September 19, 200619 yr Author Thanks Alexandra I think you were correct about just being from surgery. I'm feeling soooo much better now, it's hard to believe I just went through obesity surgery. I have had no ill effects as a result, I hope that is a good sign that things are ok. I'm glad to have a new friend who's been there, thanks again
September 19, 200619 yr Glad to hear things are looking up for you, Tutor! Now the fun begins. Take it slow with eating as you reintroduce solid foods. Welcome to Bandland!!
September 19, 200619 yr Hi Tutor, Welcome to LBT. I just wanted you to know that I had similar pains after surgery, and again a couple of months down the line. My doctor says it's normal, it happens to lots of people. About a month ago I lifted something heavy and the pain happened again - for about a week. My doc said, don't worry, you've probably pulled the fascia (the lining over the muscle where the port is stitched), give it a week and see how it is. It was fine. A little scary, but fine! I think that every time you have a weird feeling or a pain or pressure, at least for a little while, you're going to worry if it's your band or your port. Happens to everyone. Having said all that, I think its a good idea to keep in close communication with your doctor about things that you're experiencing. He/she's the best one to tell you when to worry and when to not sweat it, but just as importantly, these doctors are learning every day about what it's like to be banded; the more they know, the better they'll be able to help you and future patients. Congratulations on your band and best wishes on your journey.
