Thyroid capsules after Sleeve surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am scheduled for a surgical consult on Oct 11th to discuss 3 options for me: Gastric Bypass, Vertical Sleeve or Lap Band. I know the lapband is out for me and that leaves either the Gastric bypass or the Sleeve. The surgeon has done 700 gastric bypasses and 400 Sleeves with 0 complications, so I feel that he knows what he is doing. He also teaches the Sleeve technique to other surgeons as well. I have attended his seminars and taken steps to meet insurance criteria for 100% coverage. The only thing is my insurance will not pay for the sleeve except in "special determination" situations, so hopefully this will be one of them.

My problem with the Gastric Bypass is the malabsorption issues. Everyone says they love their GB, etc etc...but then they complain about how hard it is for them to take their Vitamins, switching from tablets to liquid, etc etc. I don't want to go through that.

I am hypothyroid and have just achieved optimal levels (TSH 1.8) with my compounded time released capsules and I just do not want to go through a battle again! It took me 9 years to get to this wonderful state of health hormone-wise (I take bioidentical female hormones in a cream form) and all levels are optimized! So, my question is...are there any "Sleever"s out there that continue to take their thyroid meds as before with no absorption problems? I already take calcium citrate with vit D tablets and I don't want to change that, either. Would it be possible for me to continue to take my compounded time released thyroid meds and my Calcium citrate tablets after surgery? I have thought about switchng to Bariatric Advantage Vitamin therapy for my aftercare options after the sleeve. My doctor uses that.

Help, please! I want to be informed when I go see my doctor!

Thank you so much,

Sarah

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
