When can I do more than walk?

Hi everyone!

I'm 2 weeks post op and it's freezing outside, I have an elliptical and want to get on it sooo bad also I'm anxious to start lifting weights to avoid lots of flabby skin with weight loss... when are we able to safely move up in exercise???

Hi Shutterbug I just had my 2 week appt and they said not until after the sixth week can I do anything but walk. Was bummed wanted to start going to delta. So I walk been shopping and I have pedals that I use when at the computer. Good Luck.

You should call your surgeon. I was cleared for full exercise at one month post-op, but I took it easy with the weights (used 3 lb ones) until 6 or 7 weeks post-op. Now I do remember feeling really tired after exercise in the beginning, which was new for me...usually exercise energized me, but I'm now back to normal in that regard.

On the other hand, I've read where surgeon's allow patients to do exercise, non-strenuous, earlier (I think the elliptical might count as non-strenuous??). Good luck, but even if you need to wait, it's not too far off.

Thanks for the replies ladies! I see my surgeon for the first time since surgery tomorrow.. today was my 2 week post op date... only lost 2 lbs.. wondering how much my period played into that and if I need to "move" more already...
