My husband had surgery today and he is still in the hospital but seems to be in so much pain.

I found this site in search of support for him / Things I can do to make the transition a bit easier on him. I'm a "high metabolism" women with 2 children... I do try to cook healthy but we still enjoy our share of poor food choices. The kids are aware of this new journey we will be making with Dad to make all our lives healthier but I don't know where to start... There's ice cream in the fridge, chips in the pantry... Do I rid the house of all these temptations before he arrives home from the hospital. I'm very happy he made this choice however the thought of family dinners... Him.. Sipping chicken broth... Us eating a meal... Makes me feel very guilty..

Don't feel guilty. This is a journey that he has chosen and all you can do is be an emotional cheerleader. I'm 2 weeks post op and have made my kids dinner in the past week (baked French fries!!!) and didn't eat it. So if he's decided to make the change in his life, it will be fine.

I am 3 weeks post-op, and for the first week I wasn't hungry/tempted/jealous. But after a while it got really hard to see some of my favorite junk foods in the house. Right now I can pretty much eat anything because I don't have a fill yet, so it's almost all will power and having things like sugary cereal, chips, cookies, pizza, ice cream, peanut butter, etc. has been really difficult. My spouse has no problem with his weight, he and our daughter are twigs, so I haven't asked that he remove their treats, but I do wish he would stop bringing new junk food into the house knowing that I have an addiction that I'm trying to beat.

Wife and daughters have a healthy relationship with food. For me, it is out of site, out of mind. They have their treats, but not usually in front of me. They don't sneak food, but they are just being polite.

As for dinners, I am the cook of the house and my wife complained that what I was fixing for myself was better than what I was fixing for them during the clear liquid phase, I simply dined alone. Once I graduated to mushie I made some delicious Soups that the whole family enjoyed.
