Easy Way OUT??

Ok I have a family member that is considering getting banded. When she told her mom she was thinking about this her responce was ...."Just like you wanting to take the easy way out".

Now I have spoken to her mother about me being banning and got nothing but support so this took me by surprise. She herself is over weight and knows the struggle of trying to lose.

I have not had someone so bold as to stand in my face and say this.

So my question to you all is this........What do you tell someone who says we took the easy way out?

This was the best reply. Now if I can just remember it. I will write it down and hand it to all the people that say I'm taking the easy way out. Surgery the 19th. Can't wait.

the easy way out is to do nothing about your weight at all. Harder, by far, is to walk into a drs. office and risk your life to save your life.

What an awesome response!

Well, it has been the easiest way that I've ever actually lost weight, but having to take such a drastic step as surgery to do that and living with the possible future complications of a band inside me, is not so easy.

We all watch TV ads, that say lose 30 pounds in a month with some supplement or magic tea etc. and people buy them, knowing they won;t work. Why? because they wanted to lose weight the easy way.

Lots of diabetics could control their diabetes if they lose weight, but they don;t, they take a pill instead. some peole with HBP could control it by losing weight and reducing sodium but continue to eat salt and take a pill instead....Did they take the easy way out?

We just do what we think is the best thing for us at the time based on what's available. That's all we can do.

So are the women who say it's the easy way out still down by the river with their washboards, scrubbing their clothes on the rocks? Why not? Are they taking the easy way out, using a washer and dryer? What's the matter with them?

I don't understand why persisting with method for losing weight that does not work for me and 95% of the rest of humanity (dieting) is more noble than having surgery that forces me to think about every bite that goes in my mouth, every day for the rest of my life. Anyone who believes that, or expresses that belief, is either ignorant, spiteful, or jealous.

If this is the "easy" way then why do I have to spend 2 hours everyday at the gym and watch every morsel that goes in my mouth??? I have lost this weight NOT the band. The band only helps motivate me and keep me accountable, but this is definitely ALL me and there is NOTHING easy about it.

AMEN !! I agree 100%.

:eek:Wow! That had to hurt your cousin's feelings. it kinda ticks me off that as a parent she didn't support her daughter. But on the other hand maybe she as a parent is just scared for her daughter and needs to learn more about the band, so she will understand it's not a quick fix and speaking for myself it's definitely not a "QUICK Fix or Easy way out" Tell your cousin to hang in there and do what she knows will make her live a healthier life.

When I first began my lapband journey, I copied this quote from a thread on LapBandTalk; I wish I could give credit to whomever posted it, but alas I forgot to copy the name of the originator. This is what I decided to tell if anyone ever said that to me (but so far no one has):

"I wonder if these people would prefer us to be lying smugly in our early grave with our supersized casket and an inscription on our tombstone reading, "Hey, I died 20 years before I should have but at least I didn't take the easy way out.""

I prefer "the easy way out" to dying an early death from my co-morbidities. I may still die early but at least I did SOMETHING to try to prevent it.
