Question about adding a new food

I am about ten days post-op and yesterday I added sweet potatoe's into the mix and I got really sick. Any advice on foods that any of you guys have eaten (that have been recomended) and you got sick? I only at 1/4 of a cup and I became so sick I thought I was dying! LOL!
