Reflux what is it?

Hi,

I have been band for over 2 years now and for the last week or so I have this funny taste in my mouth it taste like metal or tin? Sometimes I have a funny feeling in the back of my mouth. Hard to explain. I have not had anything coming up like acid or anything no problem laying down or anything like that. Has anyone had anything like that before?? IS IT ACID REFLUX?? I have a flipped port and Im in the process of getting that fixed my insurance has agreed to pay for part of the surgery but not all. I was a self pay in MX.

Thank you Tracey

Reflux is when you eat food and back up the acid off the food. I had reflux and had to have my gallbladder removed in 2000 before i was banded. I would eat and soon as i laid down i would belch and have this awful burning in my throat. it is similar to heartburn.

Hi Tracey,

If all you're experiencing is a taste in your mouth, that could be due to any number of things that have nothing to do with being banded. Reflux usually means a sensation of material--usually liquid, sometimes acidic but sometimes not--backing up into the back of the throat. Often it occurs when lying down, or maybe is only evident upon waking. There are lots of different degrees, but what they all have in common is that the esophagus is not pushing or keeping material down the way it should be, and the material "refluxes" back up.

So if all you're feeling is a weird taste it may be something entirely different.
