April 12, 201016 yr Author My insurance does cover this. You have to have a BMI over 40 for 3 years or have BMI 35 + with a co-morbid problems such as sleep apnea, diabetes, hypertension, high cholestrol, etc. I have a BMI of 45 and i have hypertension and i was just put on medication for this and I also have high cholestrol which they tried to put me on medication for this and i have refused this. The insurance denied me saying that it does not list my BMI has been over 40 for 3 years. 4 months out of 2007 I was pregnant and before that I was borderline 40 BMI but I also had diabetes.
