2009 Tax Season

As a resident of Ontario it is my duty to try and maintain my hard earned dollars for my family as well pay my taxes on time. That being said, the provincial government does not assist us with providing funding to pay for surgical banding. I believe this topic has been brought up more than a couple times but I am also encourage to hear if anyone knows anything new on how we can recoup some of this money we spend so we can live longer to continue to pay taxes. I was banded in June and I am looking to claim medical expenses on my Tax Return. Does anyone have any advice??

Please go to the Canadian Revenue Agencies website and search for tax on private surgery. You can claim the whole amount providing you have the necessary receipts. The only area the agents really focus on is your travel expenses. All necessary information can be found on their site.

I spoke with my accountant this morning and he says there will be no issues providing you have all documents with receipts. He has told me to claim all traveling expenses providing corresponding dates (when, where and how far) with the doctors office where you got your surgery and fills.
