Upper back pain when eating solids

Recommended Posts

This band just keeps you guessing all the time! I had my last fill in November and have lost about 30 lbs. Instead of my band getting looser, it seems to be getting tighter. I would say at least half the time I have a lot of trouble with solids. I recently started getting upper back pain and pressure when I eat solids like chicken. It only lasts for about 10-15 minutes but it's very uncomfortable. I am chewing my food up like a champ. With chicken it's about 60 chews per piece. I'm having more stuck and PB episodes. I also went from being able to drink 12 oz Water at a time to only being able to drink about 1 oz at a time. I'm not getting good Fluid intake and Constipation is really starting to be a problem. Any ideas?

Hmm... my first thought was that maybe you have some swelling and need a slight unfill. That's how I felt after I got something horribly stuck (happened twice).

I think you need to call your doctor and let him/her know what's going on. The longer it stays swollen, the longer it will take to go back to normal.

Good luck! :smile2:

I some times have pain in my shoulder blade that runs around and up my neck. I have been told that it is from a nerve that wraps around where the band is and continues to the back and neck. Minbe usually hurts for 3 reasones 1- when I am really hungry 2-when I over eat or get stuck 3-or when I drink Water too fast. Not sure if this is the pain you are having but it sounds similar to mine. Hope this helps. Keep up the awesome work!

I'm sorry that I don't have any suggestions or recommendations for the pain you experience when eating solids, but I do agree with SpideyMom that you should discuss this with your physician and nutritionist, if you have one. I had my last fill back in September, and have felt varying levels of restriction since then. Over the last two weeks, I have felt like I've just had a fill, and was only able to tolerate sips of liquid and very small portions of solids - well chewed. I'm really tight in the mornings, and sometimes have trouble sipping Water to take my morning meds & Vitamin. Since I hadn't needed a fill, I hadn't seen my doctor since October. Well, I went for a checkup this week, and she was very complimentary on my progress and felt I was going to be successful with this tool. She said people's bodies react differently to the band and feel restriction at varying levels throughout the process. I'm actually glad my band seems to be 'auto adjusting' just when I need a little extra help from it :) Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
