Thank you for the information, it's a relief to hear a positive story that it got better. I am hoping a hiatal hernia is what I have since every other test I have done shows everything is normal. I will know what the barium swallow shows on tuesday of next week.

Everyone is different and swelling can last for months but it did go away over time for me. If you are not already try and drink warm liquids at least once or twice a day. I had to do that with the lapband and it eases up the swelling. I mean your stomach can be fine one day but then you could maybe eat to much etc. and the next day swelling again. I have been drinking warm bone broth the last few weeks and I think it is why I am getting less heartburn now. I am not currently taking my protonix everyday. I just chew gaviscon when I need it. I went years with the lapband without it. And then the last 2 years I have gotten heartburn even with the lapband out. I pretty much think mine is only triggered by carbonation, alcohol and bending a lot after eating.

I have been told by my doctor that it's a big No with bypass and a small no on sleeve as long as you take an acid reducer with it. I am assuming with bypass the ulceration is higher especially since things leave your stomach quicker.

I hope it's just from being not far out from surgery, I know its terrible. I had it constantly even with meds right after my lap band surgery. It took about 3-6 months for me to be medicine free. I hope that's what will occur for you. Hopefull, its just swelling.

I was only looking into it in case I needed it should I develop constant reflux after a sleeve surgery. I have heard it can be a difficult surgery ( I follow a facebook group for linx patients). It seems like scar tissue and pooling are a challenge in the beginning. The doctor told me its all usually short term. Have you had the linx surgery? Thanks for the info!

If I understand correctly you have the sleeve and do not have reflux now due to a hiatal hernia repair? Did you have reflux prior to the sleeve? How did they diagnose your hiatal hernia? I have had a scope, gastric emptying study, manometry test, and today I did an upper GI. They did see I am refluxing on the upper GI when I layed down on my side. All other tests came back normal (manometry, scope etc). I hope it just may be a hiatal hernia that is to small to see because there is currently no real explanation for it. They are telling me they don't see a hiatal hernia, however I did have a small repair done when they put in the lap band. I am about 95% against bypass due to the NSAIDS issue. I pray I do not need to do that.

That sounds horrible, I had reflux for about 6-7 months non stop with the lap band I could barely take it anymore. I did not have reflux prior to the lapband. I am concerned about the reflux I have now and converting to the sleeve. Have you ever heard of the linx system? I talked to a surgeon about it already. It may prevent you from having to convert to bypass due to reflux. Awesome on reaching your goal. I have done all the tests you have done. Thanks for the information. I would consider mine mild. I can go days without any meds and really its just alcohol or carbonation (or bending over after a big meal) that can give me reflux. I think I have a hiatal hernia as that seems logical being that when I bend over or lift something heavy I can get instant reflux. The manometry, scope, and gastric emptying test all showed everything looked good so they are a little baffled why I have reflux. I did have a hiatal hernia repair when I had lapband surgery back in 2010.

Thanks for the information. I just got back from his office. He said he was not opposed as long as I knew the risk. I did a manometry, scope, and gastric emptying test. Everything looked good so maybe my reason for acid reflux is I am just fat lol. One more test and that is an upper GI next week.

oh no! I am sorry. I did have AR for a few months after my lap band but it eventually went away. I think it took me like 4-6 months. Hopefully, yours will go away it doesn't look like you are that far out from surgery? 2 months out?

Have you ever heard of the Linx system for acid reflux? I have looked into it and it has me reconsidering getting the sleeve now. It has worked on people that have had the sleeve but dont want bypass.

I am wanting to the sleeve surgery but my surgeon keeps pushing the gastric bypass which I am not doing. I had AR bad so I had my lap band removed a year ago. I did not have AR before he lap band and did not start getting it until 6 years after having the band. I do not take medication daily for AR but I do take them. I mainly get heartburn after drinking alcohol, carbonation, or bending over after eating a heavy meal. Is there anyone that did not get worsening of acid reflux after getting the sleeve. Is there anyone who might not get it all now since they have lost weight with the sleeve? Thanks for the help.!

I had an upper GI today. Thank God the radiologist said band looks ilike it s where it is suppose to be. He did not reveal to me a specific reason for my acid reflex, which has gotten worse since my first band adjustment on Jan 7'11. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same times as the lap band placement. I am wondering if anyone has had this problem. I did not have heartburn prior to lapband surgery and I am taking prescription acid reflux pills but still have heartburn. I follow up with surgeon tomorrow. But is it possible my first band adjustment is too tight? Anyone have this problem occur after hernia repair/lap band?

I know for sure that you do let the Fluid out when you become pregnant. However, letting the fluid out just so you can eat more for occassions is not a good idea and I do not think a doctor would do that. I am not sure what your insurance plan requires but they may not pay for it unless is medically necessary. I have to pay 150.00 each time I get a band adjustment, thanks includes letting the fluid out. Hope this helps. Jenny

I am 32, have never really experienced heartburn or problems and I was told I had a hiatal hernia from my husband when I woke up from surgery. They repaired it at the same times as placing the band and it has been totally uncomfortable. I had heartburn for weeks (never had it before) and I was very short of breath and had terrible gas pains for over 2 weeks. I think all my discomfort was caused by the hernia repair (which was necessary) not the band. I didn't start feeling relief from the repair until almost 6 weeks. Hang in there it will get better.

if you are still losing weight I would wait on the fill. I waited until week 7 and they gave me two thirds of what they normally fill someone. I still had pretty good restriction I was just getting hungrier sooner than 4 hours. But listen to your body dont feel like you need a fill at 6 weeks because everyone else does.

What does your preop diet consist of? Mine was only for a week (thank God) but was 2 shakes and one small meal a day. I did my meal during lunch so it was easier to space out the shakes and not feel so deprived. It was hard for the first 3 days by then the headaches and shakiness had subsided. Try and hang in there though .

Yes I know what you mean. I am at 4 weeks and I am hungry right now and I just ate 2 oz of egg salad and I am not starting to feel pressure and hiccup so I stopped eating, but I am still hungry. So you are right it is like you have 2 stomachs. I would say wait 30 mins to an hour and if hunger still there try again. Right now eating seems to feel like a full time job..lol..but hopefully that will get better with time

I am at 4 weeks. During the first week I did feel some hunger pains but usually they went away when I sipped on chicken broth or Protein shakes. I am not sure what you doctor has advised but mine advised to stick to just Jello, popcicles, Protein Shakes, and broth. I wouldn't deviate from the liquid diet unless your doctor advises. If you are not satisifed on these items maybe the doctor can move you up to Soups. But I would check with your doctor before advancing your diet. Hang in there, the second week for me was better I could eat pudding and yogurt and I felt satisifed after that.
