    Recovery Question

I was able to move around very slowly without help. I did stay overnight and when i got home the next day all I did was sleep!!! I had to sleep in a recliner for about 4days because it hurt to lay flat. Once I was home the only pain meds I took were Extra Strength Tylenol(I struggled more with nausea than pain). I tried the GasX strips but they weren't strong enough so I took the pills(they are small and very easy to swallow). If your mom is nearby I think it would just ease your mind a bit to have her around the day after surgery. Everyone is different with how they are after surgery and better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.

    Banded 9/10/10- Questions

I didn't start Protiens until about 3 days post-op and my Vitamins at 1wk post-op. I did have the pain pump/ball too and yes it was very awkward. I was told to pull mine out when it was flat...so I had my surgery on a Wed and pulled it out Friday(didn't hurt at all but definitely a wierd sensation). I'm now 2.5wks post-op and doing much better. Hang in there!

To Weigh or Not To Weigh

I think it's all a matter of personal preference. For me I'm a slow loser and it's very frustrating to step on a scale after 2wks on a liquid pre-op diet only to have lost 6lbs....and post op I've only lost 8lbs in 2 weeks. Especially when I read that some people lose massive amounts of weight during these phases. However....I have to remember that the reason I did this surgery was to improve my health. I know this is a journey and won't happen overnight. So in order for me to keep my head in the right space to be successful, my MD and RD both agreed to do "blind weigh-in's"(they see the numbers and I don't) and for me just to focus on the non-scale successes. I do know lots of people though that weigh-in once per week(same day same time) and say it really helps them. Again i think it's just whatever will help you the most.
  4. I'm 2wks out and I can drink as much as I want so long as I take it slow(otherwise I have to deal with nausea). As for the the question about fullness, I get full(and I mean FULL) on 4oz of pureed foods. I eat 3-4x per day at this point. I've heard that isn't too common though, so I'm waiting for the "bomb" to drop.
  5. I'm trying to sneak in more Protein powder to things, but the problem is(and I NEVER thought I'd say this) I get full so fast. 1/2 cup of pureed Soup and I'm stuffed. I'm assuming it's still swelling because I know this isn't normal at 2wks out. I stay full for about 4hrs after a Protein shake and about 3hrs after lunch and dinner. I try to stay hydrated, but I'll admit I'm getting lazy with my fluids :~( I'm still having alot of problems with Heartburn and sometimes nausea, but it's getting better. Still.....2wks out I didn't think I'd be dealing with either of those issues. YUCK!
  6. Hey All, I'm only 12days out...in pureed/mushie phase right now. I'm curious as to how you guys are getting in so much Protein each day. When I was just doing my unjury shakes I could only get in 2 per day...so the max Protein I'm getting is 40gr/day(my shakes take me about 1hr30min to drink and it feels as if I'm going to explode!) I'm assuming that's why I'm still soooo tired. I've tried adding Protein powder to things like Yogurt or chicken broth, but I can only get down 1/4cup before I start feeling super full. So at the end of the day my sneaking in Protein still doesn't give me enough. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Lymphatic Massage Pre/Post Op?

I'm 9 days Post-Op and I actually had some impromptu trigger point type massage today. I actually went in for some energy work(and she's also a Massage Therapist) and in the course she could see how uncomfortable I was lying on my back. I don't know about you all, but every muscle in my core pulls all the way up through my chest and down through my back!! I've been so uncomfortable trying to sleep at night as a result. Anyway, she did some extremely light feeling around and found some major trigger points that she was able to work with. It's now 10hrs later and I feel like I can sit easier and stand up easier too...even breathe a little deeper. She said the body's natural response is to contract in times of trauma(which surgery is) and that as a result she could feel all the tightness. All I know is I'm feeling and moving better than I have in 9 days! I think it's definitely worth doing the Lymphatic Massage. I did that after another surgery I had on my knee and it was absolutely amazing for my recovery. I hadn't even considered it for this one...but now that you mention it I think I'm going to call tomorrow :~)
  8. Hey All- This is my first post on this site, although I've been reading the boards for awhile. I was banded 1wk ago-am on my Full liquid phase and am supposed to start Mushy food this weekend. However, I'm having a really hard time with what feels like constant heartburn(or that feeling of having a pill get stuck midway in your chest if anyone knows what I mean). As a result I can't manage to get in all my Protein shakes. It literally takes me about 2hrs to get one 8oz shake down and I feel so uncomfortable afterwards no matter if I'm sitting or standing. It's not always just with shakes-it happens with broth and other liquids sometimes too. I've been told this is normal. I'm doing my walking, taking GasX and RX medicine(that I was on before surgery), and sipping slowly. I can't imagine trying to "eat" anything with how uncomfortable this feels! I have to start getting in more Protein/Calories because I'm still very tired and have no energy! Is this something that will soon pass? UGH!
  9. Thanks for the response. I'd read somewhere else on here that someone had the same symptoms and apparently had 2cc's Fluid in their band as well. OMG I hope that isn't the case!!! I go for my post-op Tuesday and hopefully I will get some answers then. In the meantime I think the medications are helping and I just have to take everything super slow. I seem to tolerate the shakes better when I drink them over several hours. I really hope this gets better :~(
  10. @bnlluvr02-I've had the same problem since surgery and I am 9 days out. Mine almost feels like Heartburn or a dull ache in my chest and tends to happen most when I drink anything other than "clear liquids". As a result I'm maybe getting 30grams Protein p/day because the fuller shakes/creamed Soups are harder to get down-but I am getting in all my fluids. I've been told this is normal for some and just to keep on working on getting that Protein down. I was advised not to start Mushies just yet until I can get in the infamous 60grams Protein per day....and trust me the last thing I want is to try anything that isn't a liquid because I really think it's going to be uncomfortable. I'm on an RX for Reflux in the AM that I was on before surgery-and my Dr. has put me on another at night and it seems to be lessening just a bit with that combo the past 2 days. I really hope this is just my body still recovering and will pass because it is soooo frustrating.
