I was all teed up to have my surgery in January only to learn at the last minute that it was not covered by my BCBS of NC. So, I had to cancel the surgery at the last minute and go through the appeals process. I'm happy to report that the appeal worked and I have since had the surgery-- just 4 months later. It was a big disappointment at the time, but, it all worked out. If you have to appeal, contact obesitylaw.com. They handled my appeal free-of-charge. It took them a little while--maybe a month or so, but, it was free.

I used a lawyer from obesitylaw.com. My doctor's office had to fill out a bunch of papers so that the lawyers could decide whether or not to take my case. But, the papers just asked for my medical info that the doctor already had. It didn't take the law firm too long (maybe a month) and it was free.:clap2: But, about the time they filed my appeal, BCBS of NC decided to add Lap Band to the list of procedures that they cover anyway.

I finally did it I am now in band land.
I was banded on Mon, Apr 30 and was very sore and nauseous May 1st and 2nd. Yesterday was better and today (May 4), I have felt fine. Hang in there! You'll feel better very soon.

Same day surgery? Not here :-(
I was banded on Mon (April 30) and had to stay overnight and have the swallowing study done the next day. I wasn't ready before then, personally. I might should have even stayed two nights.

BCBS of NC started covering Lap Bands Jan 29, 2007. Hopefully, OK will follow suit shortly.

I am scheduled for banding Jan 15. My insurance (BCBS of NC) has denied my request for surgery :girl_hug: stating that it is experimental, although I am told that BCBS pays for it in other states. I plan to go ahead with my surgery while in the process of appealing. Doesn't sound like to me that BCBS has a leg to stand on. Thanks to everyone who suggested an attorney!!:heh:
