I have needed my knees replaced since 2002. I was told I need to lose weight before they would do it. Since then I have had a bilateral mastectomy for breast cancer, two bad to poor breast reconstructions, and today I was told I postively need weight loss surgery before they will replace my knees! I just got off the phone with the insurance company and they will not pay for it because we have a weight loss exclusion. It doesn't matter that I have a BMI of 48, severe osteoarthrisis in both knees, high blood pressure, asthma, and recently type ll diabetes! I can't justify financing something that is almost as expensive as a car. I don't understand why the insurance company would rather pay for 6 medication for the rest of my life, instead of the surgery!
