Was anyone banded in December of '06?

I am a december bandster as well and have lost 44 (I think) things are slower than I thought but I try to keep in mind that I have always wanted immediate results and those arnt possible. I was complaining to my doc a few visists ago about the slow weight loss and he said something to me that I found encouraging "even if you have only lost 3#'s this month its the last time in your life that you will have to lose those 3" I totally eased my mind and reminded me this is the last time I will ever have to "loose weight" this is the last chapter about weight loss in the novel that is my life! Here is what I do, eat health (most of the time) exercise some and DONT GET ON THE SCALE! Oh, and dont obsess!
  2. I am on day 13 of my preop diet and just want to EAT!:hungry: I have been fighting the urge to go out and get something for the last few hours, like ciggs or food :omg: (OMG I cant believe I said that) I quit almost 4 weeks ago. :clap2: Why is this so hard today? Ive been good for the past several days just freaking out now. I think im worried about the finality of it all. Wondering if I shouldnt just go have a last meal, I know that would be bad just trying to justify it in my head. OMG is this terrible, has anyone else had this issue before there sx? Someone tell me this is normal. please...:think :think :hungry:

    December Bandsters

Its been a few months since I posted. Just thought I would chime in and say HELLO! Hope everyone is well. I am. I am down just over 35 pounds and ...... ok ....... with that. Its hard cause most of us are looking for the overnight answer and this is not it. I am trying my best to be satisfied with the 6 pounds a month but do get frustrated at times. I have decided to buy a "cardio" machine. Probably a elliptical. I am finally willing to accept the fact that I HAVE to exercise. I am willing to give it a go now. I am having my 4th fill next week and looking forward to that. I am finding just a little restriction. Does anyone else notice good restriction right after a fill and then it gradually goes away? I am hoping one of these fills will be the one that last for months. Good luck all and take care.

    December Bandsters in January!

Just thought I would stop by and say Hi, I have had my first fill and doing well. THe fill was nothing, nopain etc. I have some restriction but not alot. I will be having the second fill beginning of February. I have PBed twice, both times on bread so I have decided to just not eat bread...ever. THe pbing is miserable and a little painful so to me its not worth it. FOr me if im eating something that makes me feel bad or gets stuck its proabably food I shouldnt be eating. THe biggest problem I have is eating fruits and veggies, there just isnt enough room in by stomach to fit all the protein in and veggies etc. any suggestions?

    Steady losers ;-)

Just stopped by to say hello! Things are going well here. I am finding I can eat almost anything without white flour or alot of sugar. Havnt had any real problems yet just a few "golf ball" incidents so to date I am thrilled with my decision. I go for my first fill next thursday and am looking forward to that. I am down a little over 10% and feeling great about that (better than I ever did on ww). WL has slowed but I totally expected that and anticipate a little impovment with my fill although I am having a fair amount of restriction without any fill. Hope everyone is doing well and I will try to post more frequently just crazy around here with the kids home and me back in school full time (dont know what i was thinking registering for a ft schedule). Anyway hope everyone had a great new year. One more thing, I was wondering if anyone has had issues with beef or shrimp? I love shrimp and cant seem to stomach it :cry not much of a beef eater so thats not a big deal.

    December Bandsters

I went for my post op yesterday and got my staples out. Everything looks great per doc and he was thrilled with the 19# (20 as of this morning) he said I could move to stage 4 eating since I was recovering so well and tolerating the food. Stage 4 is anything I want (witin reason) limited to no more than 1cup of food 6 times a day. He pointed out to NOT overeat, he said there is no saline in my band so he cant unfill me if I overeat, he said I should never again for the res tof my life consume more than 1cup of food at a time. He also said stay away from steak, thick skins (pot, apple etc) nuts, seeds and fried foods. He also said to make sure I am consuming 70 grams of protein a day, let me tell you if you do that there is no opportunity to eat anything bad for you. The protein will prevent hairloss, muscle loss and promote steady weight loss. Anyway, just wanted to check in with everyone and say good morning. On the subject of the cookie, he said its not typical for lapband patients to experience "dumping" syndrom but its not unheard of. He also said its more likely from the flour/fat combo than the sugar and I have to admit I seem to be having issues with white flour foods. Good luck to all and hope everyone is recovering well. Have a great day!

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Just thought I would chime in here, I am a lower BMI patient starting at 38.4. I am already down to 34.8 so seeing some real progress. I am 9 days post op and have lost 19#, I am sure that will taper off as I add more foods and calories. I am hoping to keep the average to 2# a week until I get to goal of 115 or bmi of 21.7. that should take me about 35 more weeks. August 17th will be the day If I can stay on track the whole time. Wish me luck

    December Bandsters

Just thought I would check in this morning and see how everyone is. I am 9 days post op today and feeling great. Still a little tired but I think thats more from the lack of calories than the sx. I should get my staples out this afternoon and that is exciting. I cant believe ive lost 19#, wow! I am so excited and hubby mentioned the difference last night, he said he could se it in my tummy. Dont know if u all remember but I did loose 13 on the preop diet but gained it all back (water of course) after the sx so ive actually watched the scale move 19# in 9 days. Also wanted to save some of you from the pain I had last night, my kids made some break and bake cookies yesterday after school and I was tempted so I had 1/2 of a cookie (like 2 bites) hot out of oven, since im on mushies I figured that was mushy. Anyway, about 10 min. after eating the cookie I had the worst upset tummy for like 2 hours, it was horrible. I am actually glad I felt so terrible afterwords cause I wont be tempted again. Hope some of ou will learn from my mistake. Good luck to all post sx and those having sx today and of course those on the ugly preop diet.

hubby got me the binder at walgreens and its a velcroe(sp) post abdominal sx binder. it helps cause its like a gurdle that holds the fat in and doesnt pull on the incisions. It was really helpful for me.

I am sorry to hear about your pain dawne, did I read earlier that u had a hernia repair also? I dont think I could have handled the vision and the pain....I really felt by friday I could have been back to normal if I could have been able to see. I used a heating pad just about every time i was sitting to reduce the swelling and relieve some pain maybe that helped. I also wore my abdominal binder all the time I was up. DOnt know about the hunger thing, did u have to do a prediet? I know the 2 weeks on that really changed my appetite and desire to eat.

    December Bandsters

Hello all, I know its been a while since I posted, My sx was last tuesday and all went generally well. I have had little pain, I actually only took 2 doses of pain meds. The short story is....checked in for sx at 8:30 am (scheduled for 10a.m.) sx started at 1p.m. (2 emergencie cases came in and bumped my elective sx) in recovery ward by 5 p.m. Dr wants me to stay the night so he can hang a few more bags of antibiotic and do a floroscope in the am before i go home. Wednedsay morning I discover my vision is screwed up, about 8:30 am I pick up my book (the real skinny on wls) and begin to read, I cant see the words on the pages, this is the same book i was reading in the preop room before sx so I begin to freak out a little, cuss a little, and am very scared. By 9:30 I have double vision and the blurryness is worse, I am really scared now. Several hours later and some expensive tests (I am self pay of course) mt surgeon says he has spoken with the manufacature of the skop patch for nausea and this is a side effect reported in less than 3% of patients and it will go away....in 7 to 10 days. UGH So here I am 9 days post op and I can finally see well enough to post here and let everyone know how I am doing. Other than the patch issues I am great, still a little sore on the port incision but generally great. eating has been wierd, the first week was really hard, I wasnt hungry at all and really had to work to get anything but water and apple juice down I think I may have consumed 1000 calories the entire week. I started mushies monday and this is much better, cottage cheese, tuna, oatmeal etc. I find that I can eat the entire package of oatmeal over about 1.5 hours and about but only about 2 or 3 tbsp of tuna or cottage cheese. I am surprised at the amout of food I can consume, everything I read said I wouldnt have restriction until after my first fill? I did fall prey to a piece of garlic bread last night but I had a mere 2 bites and was then FULL for 3 or so hours. Good luck to all who have sx this month and those already done. I will try to keep in touch and keep everyone updated.

OMG, I want to CHEAT! Surgery on Tues.

Hubby and I went x-mas shopping and then to village in and I got a chef salad with vinegar and oil and only used the vinegar. there was an egg, ate only the white, no tom, no croutons, ate sm amount turkey and some cheese (just a little) no carbs in any of it so i think i did okay?! I didnt have a shake for dinner. so the calories should be okay right? anyway its over and i feel okay about it so on to tomarrow.

Well anyway check us out come say hello!
  21. Wow, I had no idea that was happening. As I said in a earlier post I have not really followed the war coverage much as my nephew was in combat there and I just couldnt stomach it. I have to say though, I have mixed feeling about that. I understant wanting to protect and provide for you family and I understand coming home traumatized and in some cases mentally unstable. my nephew was in iraq for 2 tours and missed the birth of 2 of his 3 children, came home with some definate post traumatic stress syndrome and had some real (and is still having) difficulty transitioning back to normal life. That unfortunatly is the fault of our government. My nephew received almost no psycologic evaluation before returning for the second tour and pretty much none after he got home, no support groups no anything (hes a marine, they are strong you know, never need help and wouldnt ask for it). For that I am ashamed, he fought for our lives and put his on the line and the government really doesnt care if he can be a normal person after his return. But, he did his duty, he was loyal and proud and its what he signed up for. His commitment was to the corp first no exceptions. If someone isnt willing to make that sacrifice they shouldnt sign up period. I am forever proud and grateful to him for sacrificing his personal needs for the saftey and rights of me and my family. Understand this has nothing to do with the war or if I support it just morality and loyalty as a human being and american.
  22. BJ, I am 5ft1 (5ft2 on a tall day, lol) so the 115 is appropriate I think. that is what the drs say I just want to be in a healthy range than I will decide.
  23. I am curious Green, are u saying these young men are vets already? they have already been to iraq and went to canada to keep from going back? Sry, im sure I could read back but trying to decorate the house with kids so limited time.

    Any Regrets

Right on Cindy, that is exactly what I said earlier. I think Sue has lots of valuable information but its clouded my nastiness. She continually demeans and attacks people. It all seems childlike and wasteful to me. I for one and thankful for her information but her sarcasim and name calling is damaging and mean. I really dont understand why she is sooo hurtful to people who in general (and I know this isnt everyone) are vulnerable and scared right now (I know I am) and just looking for good information and maybe a kind word from others. Please, just lay off Sue, not of the info just of the name calling etc.

    Any Regrets

Marys - certainly sounds to me like u might have more going on than just being obese, sometime obesity can be a result of a medical condition. I hope you are able to get the answers you need. Maybe after you figure out why u cant loose weight with or without the band they can fix it and the band will then be the tool it was ment to be for you. My endocrinologist explained to me a few years back (see I told you I had a myriad of dr's) after a pcos dx that the relationship between fat and estrogeon, it can be a foundation for understanding obesity in women. estrogeon is stored in body fat, in abundance it can cause many health issues pcos, certain kinds of cancer, amenorreah(sp), migrains, blood sugar issues etc (oh yeah and more obesity) it is unknown (at least at that time) which came first, did the estrogeon cause weight gain or the weight gain cause estrogeon either way when they begin to fix the imbalances some weight will come off (they began to fix mine with metforman and birth control) without evan trying but certainly not all (according to the dr) it will require dedication and work from the patient as more weight is lost it should begin to clear up some of the problems. I hope u can figure out what is out of balance and get it fixed then tell us how your journey has ended with success! Good luck to u!
