I'm a 52 year old diabetic with diabetic neuropathy in my feet and legs.  The diabetes has caused high blood pressure and I'm also taking a diuretic.  I had major surgery in 2002 followed by 5 additional surgeries over the next 4 years.  I was put on steroids which didn't help.  But to backtrack a few years, because of the diabetes, I gave birth to a 10 lb and 12 1/2 pound baby, closely followed by a 7 1/2 pound baby.  I'm a mess.  During  the course of a few years, we had numerous deaths in the family, so my comfort turned to food at night.  The very thing that gave me "comfort" turned out to be an enemy and I didn't help stop it!  My pcm suggested lapband and I'm one week away from surgery now.  I've followed through with all the steps I needed to take and one year later I'm finally having the surgery done!  I'm excited and nervous all at the same time.  I have no illusions that this is a quick fix or magic pill.  But this makes me absolutely accountable and I can't wait for the day that the 6 pills I take for diabetes and hbp are shelved or at least decreased!  My faith tells me I have the strength to do this and I know I can!Now I just have to find a local support group I can attend.
