    Taking meds post-op

I just had my surgery wednesday and my surgeon told me to stay off all my diabetes meds (metformin, actos, Byetta, and Lantus Insulin). He'd said that since my sugars were staying below 150 and that I was going to be mostly sugar free for a while to leave them be. I hope to never have to go back to them!!!! Also, metformin, again can NOT be crushed. If you do have to take it, make sure that you get the NON extended release. It should be scored so you can cut it in half. Any pill that is scored can be cut. If it isn't, it can't be cut or crushed unless otherwise told so by your doc or pharmacist. Just be careful!) Best of luck to you!)
  2. Hi Reshee! My name is Michele. My surgery is scheduled for the day before yours! :o)

Keep in touch and let me know how you're doing. Would be nice to compare stories with someone whose date is SO CLOSE to mine! Successes, problems, etc... plus I know everyone's doctor/RD have different advice along the way. Would love to share back and forth.

Anyway... Best of luck to you!

    Michele

  3. First I want to say that I am so sorry that you feel you've not had a good experience with your band. Second, I want to say that I am pre-op scheduled for the 17th of this month. Third, I want to say that THIS FORUM has been an AWESOME resource for information, support, stories, inspirations, and has only fueled my anticipation of joining the MANY people who have success stories here. I don't understand how anyone could read the posts on this site and then say they wish they would have read here first or they would have never gotten the band. To me, that makes no sense. I'm not trying to make light of your situation, but I just can't see that. To me, a successful surgery is one I wake up from and with little or no complications. THE REST IS UP TO ME!!!! Only having one fill since having the band put in isn't following what most doctors advise. You have to be completely honest with yourself (I'm just saying in general, not YOU specifically) about your eating, exercise, and following the program as it should be. WLS is not a magic bullet or bean or anything other than a tool to assist you in losing weight. If it's not working, then maybe you aren't working it like you should. Kind of like an alcoholic can quote the 12 steps all they like, but if they don't work the program or actually TAKE the steps... its meaningless. If I were to be completely honest, I would say how much it bothers me that we live in an overly litigious society and people think that they can cure all their woes by suing other people, but I don't want people to think me inappropriate. If I were to continue to be completely honest, I would say that if I were to sue my surgeon for me not losing weight when I haven't been following his/her instructions as well as the dieticians would be as silly as me suing Taco Bell for being fat! I think, being the honest person that I am, I would maybe look in the mirror to find the person to blame for my lack of success after being given all the tools I needed to be successful. But... that's just me. Best of luck to you anyway.

  9. I don't know if this was for me or not, I'm not in til the 17th so I'm not even 10 days before yet. You and I are being done very close together
  10. Hello all.... My name is Michele. I've been heavy my WHOLE life. I came out of the womb and 10lbs 2oz and just kept getting fat from there! ) I'm 40 now and on WAY too many medications for my age. 3 BP meds, 4 Diabetes meds, 3 for depression/anxiety. That's just SICK!!!! I never looked at it in print until now... eek! Anyway, I've been afraid of getting WLS for a very long time. RNY scares the crap out of me, therefore the lapband. My mom had her's done 12/2008 and is now about 90lbs down!!! She's amazing. She did that mostly without exercise because she had a bad hip. She had a hip replacement in October and is now just sailing along. Guess I'm avoiding talking about me. Well, Like I said, I'm 40, on way too many meds, married to an absolutely wonderful man (4 years in April) that supports me no matter what I do (including making an ass out of myself sometimes), no kids, but haven't given up the ghost yet on that. My eggs aren't all hardboiled! ) I work as a medical assistant in a family practice office. I spent the last 4 1/2 years working in occupational health. So it's an interesting switch! I'm also in school for nursing. I used to be a helpdesk analyst until my job was sent overseas. I went back to school for this and figured I'm not stopping til I hit a master's degree. Long road, but not giving up!!! ) So... the surgery. I'm freaked out a little. I'm still wrapping up all the pre-req's for having it. But will be done in time. I'm kind of doing Optifast right now, but as usual not sticking to it very well. I try. I guess I'm just here for the same reasons you all are. To know that there are people out there like me. Is there anyone that had lapband that started out over 400lbs? How are you now? Any problems? I'll take responses from ANYONE!!! Help me be less freaked out!!!:eek::eek::eek::smile2::scared2::confused::cursing: Michele
  11. This topic is just too funny!!! But then I'm thinking, my... area has been BIG for a LOOOOONG time.... I don't see any "snap-back" happening there. I would seriously consider it I think... Of course, I have to get the band done first and lose weight, then see where things hang...eek!
  12. You all are awesome! Thank you so much for posting here! I'm actually starting to feel a little more relaxed about it as I read other's stories. It's quite encouraging.

  17. You are AMAZING!!!!! I would love to see some before and during pics!!! I'm getting banded in 3 weeks and am nervous, but you are inspiring! :o)

  18. Thank you to both of you for posting!!! Tina... Especially thanks for posting! Most of the people that I saw here that were closer to my weight are mostly guys. I mean, I'm still new to the site, so not a whole lot of spelunking yet, but for the most part so far. Not that I can't get inspiration from a man's weight loss, far from it, but let's face it... men and women in all things experience and face things differently. It's taken all this time now, but I'm finally getting my head wrapped around what having this surgery means. I'm still trying to say goodbye to some foods. I know that post surgery that you can still have a lot (well... eventually) but I'm an all or nothing kind of girl. Once I get something in my mind as well that I'm done with it, I am done with it. Just ask my ex-boyfriends!!! LOL! Well... I will be posting and reading so again thank you to both of you!!!) Michele
