I think you need to hear more from people who have done this before. There are some excellent blogs by people in all stages of the lap band. I'm just starting out and plan on surgery in March, but there are people who have documented their entire experience. Catherine55, who posted above, has one of the best blogs with really great posts. Check out her old posts. The link is on her comment. There are many opinions about diet and weight loss. If it was easy, wouldn't all of us have just decided to be thin and that would be the end of it? This is a tool for you to make changes in your health and in your life. There is still ownership of that tool. Good Luck!!

I've been having a bad case of the pre-op LAP-BAND® diet blues. My surgery will be in late March and my surgeon does 3 months supervised weight loss and also the 2 week liquid diet just prior to surgery. I have really been struggling with following the pre-op diet, and even managed to gain weight between my two nutrition appointments! So, today I woke up and thought, "I got this". I went and got some small bowls and plates, took my dog and two year old for a long walk, and have eaten perfect. I'm totally at peace with continuing like this until surgery. Did anyone else have this kind of sudden awakening???

I'm also so afraid that I'm going to die in surgery or have a heart attack or stroke. That's how anxious and nervous I am . In all my reading I have not heard of that but I'm just crazy that way . Your fears are justifiable and valid, but try and focus on the fact that you are having all the appropriate tests done to avoid any surprises, you are being cared for in an excellent hospital, and you will be monitored very closely. This is not experimental surgery and many patients have come before you. Keep a positive outlook and think of how much healthier you will be in just 6 months. Good Luck!!

Hi, everyone. I'm hoping to be banded in March. I find out at the end of this month. I live in Texas and have BC/BS Texas. First doctor visit Dec. 14, 2009 Nutrition visits Dec 28 and Jan 25 psych visit Jan 7 pre op visit with surgeon 2/24 No pre-op studies ordered at this time. My insurance requires 3 months of medically supervised weight loss. I can't wait!!

Chase, as far as I am concerned, the fact that you care enough to find out more means you are a wonderful and supporting husband. Good for you! My husband (who is also a total sweetie) has been going to appointments with me. That just means the world to me. Like you, he does not really struggle with weight, but he has listened and asked questions at every office visit. I just feel liked he is a part of this and that we made this decision together, and that's enough for me. Good luck!

I am also going through those preliminary appointments and can't wait to have the surgery. So far both the nutrition and psych visits have been surprisingly easy and even pleasant. I hope to be banded sometime in March if everything continues without problems. Good Luck!
