  1. I just went for my 3rd fill. I have been feeling crappy because I haven't lost anything in 10 days. When I went for my fill, the nurse weighed me and was thrilled, I have lost 35 lbs all together, 25 since being banded 10/20/09 (14 lbs since 2nd fill 1/4/10). She said I am doing well, (I thought I was sucking). I guess the inner perspective is different and my expectations are messed up. I had good restriction after my 2nd fill but then last week when I wasn't losing I decided to start journaling and I found that I was getting too many calories and not enough Protein. So I scheduled a fill, when I got there I told her that I would just need a little, like .25 because I didn't want to be too tight, but when I got under the floro I needed .7 to get good restriction. I didn't realize how much it had loosened. Now back to liquids and mushies and hopefully back to restriction. I do think I will keep journaling this time so I can better predict what is going on.
  2. Me, too. I had my 3rd fill today. I thought I just needed a little but when I was under the floro she had to add .7 for me to get restricion. I should have known, I ate a piece of pizza yesterday! I figured I better do it now while I still could! When did you get your band?
  3. OK I am going to ask the ever present question, Do you need a fill? I plateaued last week and then when I started journaling I realized that I was eating too much. So I scheduled an appointment for a fill, when I went today I told them I just needed a little because I had been having good restriction until last week. But once under the floro, I needed .7 to get good restriction. I didn't realize how much it had worn off! I was thinking I needed .25 or so. Oh and I know what you mean when you eat without even being conscious of it. I had a head cold Monday so I went to the store and got medicine. ($11, thank you very much.) Came home, opened the package, took out the horse sized pill and was about to put it in my mouth when my brain finally took over and screamed "DON'T TAKE THAT!". Hello? Where was my brain when I was paying $11 for it at the store? Same thing with grazing, if I catch myself before I have swallowed it, I spit it in the trash. Not very ladylike but effective. (Do you think its muscle memory?) Its all a matter of time and training. Keep at it. Dont give up. Start again now. You can do it.
  4. Dont worry about 1 day, go back and start over. Plus once you start getting fills it wont be physically possible to eat a whole pizza. I am getting a fill later today so yesterday I decided that I should have a piece of pizza since my band was loose and I wouldnt be able to after my fill. Well I was only able to eat 2 bites of the crust and then my band said STOP, OR ELSE! so I just ate the topping. It gets much easier to follow the rules after the fills start, just hang in there.
  5. I had the exact same thing last week I didnt lose a single pound but when I put slacks on to go to work yesterday they were much looser in the thighs so I decided I would take that instead. I dont care what the scales say as long as I am happy with the body I have. (This is what I keep telling myself, anyway.)
  6. I gained weight between my surgery and my first fill. Then I started losing, then plateaued so I went for my second fill, did really well (had good restriction) now I have lost more and the restriction has worn off so I didn't lose any weight last week so back for another fill tomorrow. Its a process.
  7. I really feel sorry for you.
  8. Get real lady! straight from the 70's, I mentioned your chauvinistic remark, then I gave the definition of chauvinism neither can be said to be name calling. First you called me "lady", then you called me a "d*ck" and then called me a "storage place for a d*ck". Classy........
  9. Bob, I think you are 100% right. That is why I did it. I was low BMI but still in my mind, if I continue to gain 10 lbs a year I will be sorry when I am older. I hope you are as happy with your decision as I am with mine.
  10. You are just embarrassed about your chauvinistic remark. Oh wait, I just remembered the definiton of chauvinism... chau⋅vin⋅ism 1.zealous and aggressive patriotism or blind enthusiasm for military glory.2.biased devotion to any group, attitude, or cause.
  11. Tool shed--A slut (a tool being a male reproductive organ, a shed being a place to put it.--Urbandictionary.com Your right, Patty said name calling was a lack of self esteem. (Patty, I agree with you on something!) I did attribute Patty's quote to you and I am sorry, it was an accident. I am going to take the high road and ignore the "big problem with people who join conversations......." part of your quote because my first post on this thread is #8 which means I was already here when you joined. Maybe you are the one who didn't read all the posts and just "chimed in". ( OK maybe I'm not going to take the high road.)
  12. ariscus99- I am sorry but I am going to have to point out that it is inappropriate to call someone a slut during a political debate (or prevent her from looking like a slut?) And then expect respect back? Like you said earlier, name calling is a sign of lack of self esteem.
  13. Obviously the Dr knows you better physically but I have had a plastic surgeon tell me for best results wait until your finished. I would think if you lost another 100 you would have to do it again or it would be loose. And of course, because I am a cynic, my first thought is he is trying to get paid twice. May not be the case, but my motto is never ask the car salesman which car to buy. Ask someone who has no financial gain in their answer.
  14. Erin, Don't be so hard on yourself. I don't know about you but I have gained at least 10 lbs a year for the last 10 years of my life. If you have gone 2 years at the same weight maybe that isn't what you had in mind but at least you didn't gain! Good luck with the re-commitment.
  15. I am still at 160. Same as last Monday, however, I lost 6 lbs in the 1st 2 weeks so I am still on track. I am going to get a fill on Thursday and hopefully get back to losing.
  16. I had my surgery on Tuesday and I went back to "work" on Thursday but not for 8 hours just 4 or so.
  17. Once more the Republicans are out with their deregulation theory. We are still haven't recovered from the last deregulation and now they are proposing more. Ayn Rand wrote several books proposing a free market ideology where the interests of the corporations will protect the shareholders therefore regulation is not needed. (Lets keep in mind these books are all in the fiction section at the library.) Alan Greenspan was one of Rand's inner circle and he was converted to Rand's philosophy of Objectivism. So during his term as as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve the financial markets were lightly regulated or not regulated at all. And of course, greed took over, and the markets were raped by wall street executives who had no loyalty to their corporations. Afterward, during Congressional testimony on October 23, 2008, Greenspan had this to say about his long held Objectivism beliefs: "Those of us who have looked to the self-interest of lending institutions to protect shareholder's equity — myself especially — are in a state of shocked disbelief." Referring to his free-market ideology, Greenspan said: “I have found a flaw. I don’t know how significant or permanent it is. But I have been very distressed by that fact.” Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) then pressed him to clarify his words. “In other words, you found that your view of the world, your ideology, was not right, it was not working,” Waxman said. “Absolutely, precisely,” Greenspan replied. “You know, that’s precisely the reason I was shocked, because I have been going for 40 years or more with very considerable evidence that it was working exceptionally well.” Greenspan admitted fault in opposing regulation of derivatives and acknowledged that financial institutions didn't protect shareholders and investments as well as he expected. So our current economic crisis can be traced directly back to deregulation of the markets. Greed has to be held in check by regulations.
  18. Catherine55 Quote:I disagree with the person who said that you have to limit eating out with the band. I eat out multiple times a week (I live in NYC) and it's not a problem. I just order good quality, healthy food. Your right, I should have been more clear. In the town where I live (East Texas) there are not very many places to eat out that offer good quality, healthy foods. At any given restaurant there might be 1 or 2 selections on the menu that work for me. Everything else is loaded with fat, calories and salt. It is not unusual for a single menu item to have 2000-2500 calories. Even if you only eat half it is still too much. Plus we don't have the benefit of having the nutrient contents available at most places. (I really applaud NYC for that.) So what I meant to say is: If you eat out alot and are not willing to change what you order I don't think the band does any good.
  19. I am so impressed with your success that I made my husband get up and come in here and look too. Congratulations! BTW, I think I am going to need some breast life too! "Think I'm gonna need an abdominalplasty and a breast life":smile2:
  20. I would check with some people who are banded long term and have moved on to maintenance. I am not sure if they are able to eat rice or not. If you could go through the weight loss stage without rice and then add it back in later that might work for you. There are several people that I have seen on this site who have maintained long term weight loss, I would look through the blogs and contact a few of them and ask if this is possible. By the way, I LOVE micro brew beer, however I decided that I would give it up (as in never drink it again) if I got the band. I decided that it was a good trade. I know beer and rice are not the same but I understand what you are saying.
  21. I think maybe the poster with the negative comments thought you were asking for literal help as in "please send me money", as opposed to figurative help as in "give me some ideas". Please don't let these negative comments get you down. I think they have more to do with the poster than with you. By the way, I was self pay and I used Care Credit. Maybe you could set up with them and then pay for the fills in installments.
  22. I have lost a hump of fat on the back of my neck. I put on my favorite necklace and noticed it hung lower than it use to. When I mentioned it to my husband he told be about the "hump" being gone. I had no idea it was there.........
  23. I was self pay it was $10200. The price of an average used car. I didn't want to go to Mexico, where you can have it done for about $7500. There is a lady that I play cards with who has not lost any weight with her lap band, as a matter of fact she has gained. She eats very small portions now but will eat 5-8 times a day and snacks in between. The band can be defeated just like bypass can be. She tried to discourage me from getting the band but because I am around her enough I could see her eating habits were the blame not the band. I think the people who have the best success are the ones who have portion control issues, if you eat too much at one time. This is what my problem is. I have lost 35 lbs since 10-20-09. And I know a lady who had GB done about 5 years ago, and she has gained all her weight back plus some. So you can also eat around GB. But my step sister had GB and has lost over 100 pounds and is doing great. So I think you have to decide what you are going to do. Be truthful with yourself. If you are going to eat junk foods, eat out alot, graze, etc. the band is not for you, but if you will eat healthy food, eat only 3 times a day, and exercise then you will do well. Oh and by the way, after you have spent 10 grand you are "pot committed"
  24. I have been saving my skinny clothes for so long that when I got a pair of black slacks out of my closet to wear them they had a band of dust on the leg where they were bent over the hanger.
  25. abi516--Dont worry most people go through this. I think this is where the Dr's drop the ball on telling you what to expect. You dont have any restriction until you start to get your fills. I actually gained weight during this time. I cheated during the liquid diet and ate mashed potatoes because I was so hungry. I am not saying its ok but it happened, everything is ok now, you should stop beating yourself up. Stay with your Dr's diet and be patient, remember if the band worked by just putting it in we wouldnt have the port:thumbup:
