  1. Coach Cher-- I see that this thread "ends" in April. I am new to all this and don't understand how or what 'threads' really are. But I do know that this is a very frightening subject for me. I decided to have the lap band 2 years ago. At the time insurance wouldn't cover it. But a year later I developed sleep apnea so I had 2 co-morbidities and I qualified. I had to do 6 mos. of failed diets, behavior mod, exercise, etc. I have actually done this for a year and I am scheduled to have my surgery next week. What I realized, which I swore was not the case, is that I secretly have thought that this is my magic bullet. About a month ago I started slipping. It was my birthday, then my husband's, then Halloween and I kept telling myself it was ok that I gained 2 pounds because I would be having the surgery soon and then I could lose it due to the surgery. I'm still doing the exercise and counseling etc. Then I started on the liquid diet as my surgeon has his patients do this for 2 weeks before and after the surgery. I have not been able to do the liquid diet. I've been so hungry. I was told I could add 2 glasses of milk per day in addition to the protein shakes. But even that has not helped. I am still very hungry and so I am sneaking food--saltines, handfuls of cereal, etc. This is such old behaviour and I feel guilty. Also, I seem to be detached about the surgery. I haven't really thought about how I will need to change my behavior like no fluids with meals. I just figured I would continue to do what I have been doing in the past year which has been to increase the exercise and to SLOWLY change my lifestyle habits around food. Now I am feeling really scared, like maybe I'm not ready for this surgery, like maybe I shouldn't be having the surgery etc. Any comments, suggestions? Should I check back to this thread to look for a response? I'm not even sure I know how I got here in the first place!! Helen AKA Ms B
  2. OMG! I'm back to the original page--don't know how that happened--I just got done posting a reply--I thought I had started a new "thread" whatever that is. Anyway, glad I can get back to you. So where/how did you get the ticker line to show up on your response? I love it! And is that a star on your head in your picture? I am a nursing instructor and I like to give the students pencils, notepads, etc. that say 'star student' on them. So if I could get a star shaped hat that would be too cool!!! I'd like to put a picture of myself on but have no idea how. Maybe later..much later LOL Ms B
  3. Thanks for the responses and support. I am supposed to start the all liquid protein shakes on Monday. I tried a few samples and they are ok. But I am concerned with going to all liquid and being hungry. I take them to work and by the time I get home I'm starving. Makulafamy--here's how computer challanged I am--I got an email that said I had a response to my post and it took me to the page directly. I was going to go to your blog but I had to sign on/log in. I had forgotton my password and I couldn't get to the link they had to reset after 3 trys. So I try to register again and it doesn't work.So Then I look around the site getting totally overwhelmed at how much stuff is there, and the password reset window pops up in the middle of what I was looking at. Then I couldn't get back to the original link with your signature on it so I can't get to your blog:tt1: I've been on this site for 2 hours now and this is how far I got!!! I will keep trying though.....later lol

I will be starting my pre op liquid protein shake diet this cominig Monday. I tried one yesterday just to see how it tasted. I definately was hungry when I got home from work. So I'm going back and forth fighting to cram in all the "bad" stuff I can before I can't vs. trying to get real and use this time to wean myself down to just the shakes. My surgery is scheduled for Nov. 23.
  5. I'm looking for a support group on line as I can't attend the one offered by the hospital. I'm not too computer literate and have never blogged, chatted, etc. I'll be having my surgery in 3 weeks
