December Bandsters 2009
I was banded on the 29th and I am still fighting major gas pains in my left shoulder. I actually wear a heat patch all day at work and get on the heat pad before bed. I have been walking on every break and after work, but doesn't seem to help. I too have been eating gas x like candy! Glad to know I am not alone, but when will it stop????

I went into surgery on Tues down 19 lbs, came home on Wed and had gained 9 of it back :smile2: My doctor said this is normal esp since they had to increase my IV overnight because my blood pressure decreased. I am happy to report I weighed in this morning and am back at the weight I was the morning of surgery ~ down 19 So, I agree, just hang in there and keep doing what your doing it will pay off! Good luck!

I was banded on Tuesday and was able to come home yesterday. I too would love to know how long the pain lasts. Most of my pain is on my left side by my port, I keep trying to walk and stretch but it hurts really bad. Hopefully it will pass soon.........take care!!

My doctor will not do the first fill until 8 weeks....looks like I'm going to be in for another major challenge!! I thought the 14 day liquid diet was rough........

My doctor told me no more ibprofen from 2 weeks before surgery to forever. He said that it can cause ulcers around the band. I haven't done any personal research on this, I just stopped taking it.

I've been on the 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery, which is the 29th. The best store shakes (personally) are EAS and the strawberry are my favorite. They sell them at Wal-Mart! I also ordered online Chike shakes and they are great! I have Orange & banana flavor so I have some variety. You can get free samples and just pay for shipping! Good luck to you!

I understand exactly what you are saying! I am on day 8 of a 14 day liquid diet. Honestly the first 3 days were HORRIBLE! I was in the worst mood ever, mad at the world and didn't know how I was going to make it. Hang in there, I promise it does get a little better. I'm still thinking of food and hate how many commercials and billboards there are with food on them to remind me when I am not thinking of it, but my mood is a lot better these days compared to last week It will be worth it! :crying:

BE STRONG GIRL...YOU CAN DO IT!!! I also started my liquid diet on Tuesday & it has been rough.:smile2: I thought I was doing better today until I just watched my husband & son eat Monical's pizza.:wink2: Keeping the end goal in mind is the only thing keeping me on track right now. I also keep telling myself the only way to avoid food completely would be to lock myself in a room...which crossed my mind more than a few times, but not logical. lol We can do this together!!! Is your surgery on Dec 29th?
-
December Bandsters 2009
I don't start my liquids until next week but have stocked up and tried several different kinds....Atkins being one of them. I thought if I have a variety it might help the 2 weeks go smoother? lol Anyway, I like the Atkins, but my favorite is Chike (which I ordered online). Good luck to you! Hang in there, you will be in surgery before you know it

My doctors office gave me samples of a Protein shake called Chike, I tried all 5 flavors and to be honest...I liked them all. I ended up ordering some of the banana & orange, just because I can pick up choc, strawberry & vanilla in other brands in the store for a change if I need to. They have a sample pack online you can order and only pay shipping. I highly recommend trying them, I never thought I would really like a protein shake, but have been drinking them for breakfast for over a month now just because I like them  The orange flavor taste like an orange dream cycle :tongue2::w00t: Chike Nutrition - Best Tasting Meal Replacement Shake. Guaranteed. Pour, Shake, Drink & Go! I hope this helps! Good luck!!

I'm not sure what to think today, but still trying to keeping positive! I have been giving my final insurance approval, which is AWESOME!! YAY YAY However, my chest x-ray came back abnormal, so I had a ct scan yesterday and have to wait to be cleared....I am so ready for my surgery date to be set in stone!! They told me they are still holding Dec 15th for me, but I want to know that NOTHING will postpone this. I guess I'm just ready for reassurance =)

Thank you so much Karyna!! I can't believe how many ppl are on here and being banded in Dec, that is great! I am fine with seeing the list whenever you have time to do it, you have taken on a big responsibility by keeping track and posting. That is greatly appreciated & thank you :w00t:

Congrats on your surgery date being confirmed!!! I understand your excitement! My doctors office gave me some samples to try for shakes and they are amazing :w00t: Chike Nutrition - Best Tasting Meal Replacement Shake. Guaranteed. Pour, Shake, Drink & Go! You can order samples online of all the flavors & only pay for shipping. My nurse told me that I can use half of the instructed amount of powder when making a shake if I make it with skim milk instead of water. She said that would give me the extra protein needed & make the powder last longer. My favorite is the orange, it tastes like an orange dream cycle!! But, they are all good..I think they taste better than any of the other shakes I have tried from the store. I am actually drinking one a day for breakfast right now because I like them and it will help get me in the routine. If your interested, you can sign up for their email club and get 10% off. Good luck to you

Yeah, I was told it is not painful, but thinking about it over and over in my head I can't help but wonder how it wouldn't be? I'm not looking forward to it  but it is a must! Thanks for the details at least I know what to expect. I keep telling myself this is just a bump in the road to get to where I want to be

I also started this process 3 yrs ago, however, my insurance at the time denied me. Although, I think by having that long gap, I am more than ready this time around! I can't wait!!

I found a good tasting vitamin  Bariatric Fusion Orange Cream!! I didn't like the berry flavor, but the orange cream I could handle on a daily basis. Today I was approved by the psychologist for surgery. The bariatric coordinator said for me to start preparing, she shooting to get me on the schedule for surgery on Dec 15th. I have one last test I need to take, but our hospital is getting new equipment and will not schedule any tests until after Dec 1st. So, my date will be pending that test comes out ok, but looks like I will start my liquid diet before I take the test! They seem very positive everything will work out ok and Dec 15th will be my big day:thumbup: Today I picked up liquid Tylenol, a single serve blender and some new pj's to come home from the hospital in. Later this week I will be ordering my vitamins and shakes online. Thank you to everyone for all the helpful information!!

December Bandsters 2009
Thank you so much for all of the details Karyna! That helps me relax and not worry so much  Have you decided what vitamins you are going to take after surgery? I have read different things on this site how some ppl only take a one-a-day and are fine, but my doctors office is pushing for much more. They gave me some new vitamins to try esp made for weight loss patients called Bariatric Fusion. I have only tried one flavor and not sure I could take 2-4 of those a day. I am hoping the other flavor is better or I can find something I like.

Karyna - The test you were talking about with the tube is the one I am waiting to be scheduled and not looking forward to. I was told the tube is put up my nose then I have to swallow it down my throat...they will leave it in my stomach for 15-20 min then pull it out and I will be done. But, I asked if I would be put out and the nurse told me NO, I have to be awake during the test?! There is no way I will let this test stop me, but man I can't wait to get it done!
