Drinking after you have eaten
This is one of the hardest parts for me to get down. It goes against every diet I've ever been on that told you to drink a glass of Water to feel MORE full so you eat LESS. I get it mentally, it makes perfect sense for the band. But it is sooooo hard. It could very well be my biggest lifestyle change as I have been known to have 5-6 glasses of water during ONE meal out! I drink like a fish - luckily, water is my beverage of choice!!

Sleep Apnea?!?
I just got diagnosed last Friday and I was / am P-I-S-S-E-D!! :scared2: I am having a really childish reaction to the whole thing. My tech was amazing. She had to strap me into that CPAP Hot Mess of a contraption about 90 minutes into the study because I was so severe. Good thing is - I don't have to go back because it was like two appointments in one! I just keep telling myself to look at the "bright" side...this might help me with surgery approval because now there is something "wrong".:cursing: Still, when the girl called to get me fitted with a machine - I got PISSED all over again!!! LOL But I'll do it - because I want my band. End result, End result. LOL :cursing:

Mixed emotions
These posts have been very helpful to me too - thank you! As for your ticker...on the last page of setting it up should be the codes for placing it in your signature. Highlight the code for Intel boards, right click and select COPY. On here, go to Customize Profile - Edit Signature...right click and select PASTE. Should work! Good luck to you with your surgery. Be sure and post YOUR experience.

Maybe this was a mistake!!
I agree with the others, try not to be impatient. Journalling would help you a lot I bet...you bite it, you write it. I am willing to place money that will be an eye opener. To go a step further, write how you are feeling with each meal to see what is working, what isn't and what you eat when you are sad, happy, mad, etc. Narrate your food life. It may clear up the mystery of what is going on. Good Luck to you.

zumba?
I only took one class and yes, it was a lot of fun. I felt silly at first because I don't have "moves"....LOL but no one cares. My new gym offers an Aqua Zumba that I am dying to try...you have to have Water shoes though and the stores aren't carrying them yet! Good Luck!

Goal Weight Too Thin?!
I am 5'5" at 258 and have a goal weight of 165. My nutritionist told me that is lower than the average weight loss expected from the band....meaning I won't get there. Now, that is not the "healthy" weight for me...165 is still high. Of course, with added effort on my part, that much weight loss is possible...blah blah blah. Maybe your Dr. was confusing the two weights - what you should weight vs what is accomplish-able with the band?? Just a thought.

Questions to ask
Huh - just now realized people were RESPONDING to my list! haha. The bronchitis - I get it yearly very, very badly. I was wondering how the coughing and heaving would affect my band. The coughing is quite a toll on my torso....actually resulting in injuries some years! That was what I was wanting to ask the Dr.

What if this doesn't work either?
I have the same fears - and then some.... What if it doesn't work? What if I waste this opportunity? What if this doesn't help the things I am hoping it will help? What if my friends and family don't recognize me? What if I don't recognize myself? What if I lose friends - lunch buddies, Breakfast buddies? What if people judge me as taking the easy way out? And we haven't even gotten to fears of the physical (surgery, complications, etc). I am there with you (and then psychotically beyond you!). I think these fears are normal and, dare I say, healthy?! Good luck to you.

6mo supervised weight loss - how much did you lose?
If you had to complete the six month supervised weight loss....how much did you lose? I am curious for the normal diet results - not once you started pre-op liquids and such. Thanks!

12-24 Months, then hunger returns?
It is entirely possible that I misunderstood - the support group is for both gastric and band patients. There are over 100 people there each time! Thanks for the idea.

12-24 Months, then hunger returns?
Um...what now? I was in my third support group meeting last night and heard someone speak about the 12-24 months you have to create a new mindset. Then the guest speaker got up, had surgery 3 years ago, and said that NOW is when the real battle begins because, as was stated before, the 12-24 month period was over and the hunger has returned. This is the first I am hearing of this. I know LB is a TOOL, not a solution. But now it seems there is an expiry on its effectiveness?? Can someone shed some insight? Thanks!

New to the Board
I have been away. We were told we were losing our insurance at work and it looked as if the surgery, that I had not even decided I wanted, was a NO GO. Turns out insurance is staying the same so I am glad I continued with the motions of the 6 month pre-approval. So, I am back on track - with only having gained 2 pounds between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a vacation! Not too shabby. L.

Six month medically supervised diet
I am really embracing the 6 months. I am using this time to get educated and practice post-surgery habits. For instance, this month I am trying the 15-30 chews per bite. I am amazed at how this lengthens my meal time and makes me fuller faster. I also joined a gym and am trying to get into 3x's a week routine. I am considering this 6 months much needed prep time.

Mental Breakdown!
That sounds like an anxiety / panic attack. I would take it easy today - meditate - don't fret about it. If it happens again, BREATHE. And move. That is what I have been told...move even though you don't feel like it. It is supposed to get more oxygen to you but it is hard because all I felt like doing was collapsing. I've had three - none were band related though. Good Luck!

A THIRD Breast?
Oh Good Lord - thank goodness I saw this post! I would have been FREAKING out! LOL LOL This is why I like this board!:wink2:

Pre-Approval testing - on hold until Jan 1
Here's the thing....I just saw my surgeon for the first time last week. I haven't even decided if I want this surgery...but have decided to go ahead with the approval process. I would be looking at a Mar-May surgery date if I decide to proceed. However, the Dr.'s office has already scheduled me (this week) for things like EKG, sleep study, chest xrays, etc. They assured me these things were a copay situation. When I got to the hospital I was informed that they are a deductible situation. That is a big difference. I wasn't wild in the first place to have testing for an approval for an insurance that could change at renewals in December. But if it was just a copay - fine. Now that it is a deductible...I put everything on hold until after Jan 1. There is no sense in me paying a $250-500 deductible with 8 weeks left in 2009 - when it is going to start over again in two months and I will have to pay it all again because the surgery is (theoretically) in 2010. I am nervous this is going to irritate the Dr's office but if there is an urgency I am unaware of...they should be taking the time to explain it to me. She called me Friday with the Monday appts...and gave me incorrect payment instructions. Just thought I'd vent. Thanks!

Insurance said yes, then no after the procedure.
I agree with the others that this is a crock. However, I think you should start with your doctor's office. Give them the chance to fix it. On much smaller scales...I have debated bills with individual offices and had them reduced or resubmitted to a favorable resolution. If this does not work - stop talking to them and seek legal advice. But also seek legal / medical advice on moving forward with your weight loss journey. Don't compound the tragedy by wasting your surgery!

Have you named your band yet?
Oooooo - this opens the door to all kinds of things.... birthday / anniversary parties for him/her, etc. As a person who names her cars (Edna the Escort and Esther the Escape)....I love this idea!:wink2:

Pheterine
As I tell more and more people about my plans....I hear more and more things. Someone suggested this drug in lieu of surgery. Does anyone here know anything about it? Good - Bad - Ugly? Thanks in advance. LT
