  1. I think United HealthCare is a PPO, no? I think for some reason PPO's approved a little faster. Anyway, I have Blue Cross/Blue Sheild PPO and I got approval in about 2 1/2 weeks. I feel very grateful, as a lot of people have to struggle with the insurance co. I think a lot has to do with the expertise of the office staff that processes your insurance paper work. If the staff is well versed with what each insurance co. requires, it will go very fast. Very fast means 2 to 4 weeks, unfortunately! But don't give up easily! Stay on top of the ins. co. & Dr.'s office, if your BMI is over 40, they should cover you. Good luck and keep us updated!
  2. Hi All, I just got approval today from my insurance co. for the lapband. I am meeting with my Dr. tomorrow afternoon. I'm wondering how long it takes from this point to get a surgery date? I think I have to do some tests first, no? My Dr. is Dr. Oliak in Southern Cal. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks, Michelle
  3. Congrats!! May I ask how long it took to get your surgery date?
  4. Don't take it personally. I consider this people, "normal" when it comes to weight issues and food. They really have no idea what we have gone through in our lives because of food and being overweight. I try to look at it like I would have no idea what it's like to be addicted gambling! I gamble sometimes, but when I lose more than $50, I'm done! I don't keep on gambling. When they have 2 cookies, they are "done". When I have 2 cookies, I'm just getting started. The old me anyway! I am just trying to say that they have no clue what we are going through. I had to literally ask my friends and family to be supportive of my decision no matter what they personally think. And so, so good. Good luck & blessings, Michelle
  5. Thank you Parrot Kathy, You provided some extremely VALUABLE information! I hope others see you msg, so it will help them also. My request is in process and i'm pretty sure my Dr.'s office is really up to speed on how to approval. I will keep everyone updated. THANK YOU!
  6. WOW, you guys are amazing!! Thank you soooo much for the support, I'm truly grateful. I believe the Dr.'s office just put in for approval a few days ago and they told me it takes about two weeks. I will keep everyone updated. And thanks soooo much again! Michelle in the OC
  7. Hi All, I'm new here. Thank you for reading my post! I'm waiting on my insurance approval. I have Empire Blue Cross / Blue Shield PPO. My BMI is 41. I've given the LAP-BAND® a lot of consideration and I'm finally ready! I'm concerned because I see a lot of people had a lot of problems getting their insurance to cover the band. And they had a higher BMI than me. Is there anyone out there who did NOT have a problem with insurance covering their LAP-BAND®? If so, I'd love to hear from you! And also what Ins Co do you have? Thanks so much for any help!
