I first throught really seriously of Lap Band surgery at my annual physical about a year ago when my doctor mentioned my weight and I said after all the diets where I had lost 30 or 40 pounds then gained it back and more I was resigned to my weight.  I laughed and said maybe I should consider Lap Band.  My doctor said that actually, I'd be a perfect candidate for it.  From there I went to an informational meeting taking my husband with me because I knew his support would be crucial.  I was nervous about bringing it up to him because I thought he'd dismiss the idea and bring up a lot of negatives about it.  I told him this was something I was serious about and in order for it to work, I'd need his support.  He was a little skeptical but once he heard my doctor (who is also his doctor) was on board, he was willing to go with me to hear more.  From then on until today has been a step by step process.  I am about 10 days away from starting my pre-op diet (while I'm on vacation at Disney World no less!).  My surgery date is Oct. 7th, 2009.  It will be just over a year since I first spoke with my doctor about it being an option.  I was a little dismayed that it would take so long to get to the actual surgery but in thinking back, this has been good.  This is a big life style change and will affect the rest of my life.  There were times when I thought I didn't want to do it or wasn't sure.  It has taken me almost this long to make sure, really sure, this is the path for me.  I have told my immediate family and a few close friends and co workers and will tell the rest as it comes up.  I'm a little sad about having to eat small, well chewed bites and saying good bye to bread and pizza but very excited about the prospect of being off my high blood pressure meds and my health and energy improving.  I'm interested to read about other's experiences.
