    Banded in october--updates please

I was banded 10/16. Since surgery I have lost 20lbs- and 35 total. I just had my first fill on 12/18! I went for a post op visit on 11/16 but was told everything was fine and i was feeling some kind of restriction. All of a sudden i wasn't losing anymore I think the month of november i only lost 3lbs AND I was working ou - so I knew something needed to be done just didn't know it was a fill. Now I know when it's time to get a feel! about 6 days after the fill (last week wednesday) i had problems getting food down- slime and vomitin for about two days always felt like it got stuck and then mucus and then it all comes spweing out. I thought maybe i was too tight but alas starting yesterday -i'm back to normal. since my fill i've lost 2lbs so far so i think it's working.
  2. This is so super helpful! I guess I need to just keep my eyes on the prize. I was banded 10/16/09 and so far I have lost 32lbs. 30 of that was lost by 11/18. Since then I’ve stalled and sometimes gained- even though I think the scale is my greatest enemy. Now I haven’t followed everything to the tee- like consuming a total of 4oz per meal. I have exercised about 2-3 times a week for the past 3 weeks (hey it’s better than nothingJ) I have consciously stayed away from carbs even though every once in a while I have consumed some. Once thing I can say is that I haven’t really eaten to the point where I throw up as I have heard people say. I agree each person’s experience is different (I just need to fully accept it and stop being so hard on myself) The greatest thing is my clothes fit sooo much better and I don’t feel as tired and heavy as I used to. So all I can say is do what works for you and listen to your body. Goodluck
  3. Got banded 10/16 and by the third week I was so sick of not “chewing” that I started to eat chicken and pulverize it in my mouth- It seemed fine then- About 2 weeks ago I must have forgotten that I had the band because I was so hungry that I had some chicken and I felt this incredible pain and for a while there it seemed like anything I ate I felt. Almost like you feel something going down your throat only this time it was my stomach- arrggg no pain just weird feeling. Yesterday I had some chicken again didn’t eat it too fast but incredible pain again! I tried some water to push it down but big mistake. I had to go through the pain till everything settled down. So, is it stuck has it slipped, or chicken is just not my band’s friend? Also I am curious how many people eat the measurement of food as directed? It’s just impractical sometimes- and I sure hope my eyeballs are accurate enough.
  4. OMG! This has been the question on my mind! I am soooooooooo thankful for this site and the people on it I could cry! I was banded 10/16 and in the 1st week lost 7lbs- I was so excited, but then things slowed down. So far since the surgery I have lost 13.8 (ignore the .8 all of a sudden decimal wt loss means something to me-lol) I have heard stories about people losing 40lbs the first month or should I say by the time they get their 1st fill which is apprx a month (for my dr anyway) so I did expect to lose about 30lbs! I am learning to be forgiving and to STAY off the scale or maybe have someone else hide it every two weeks. I am still thankful because since my preop diet I have lost 27.8lbs more than I have in such a long time and more importantly- no more joint pain and I can fit into some of my clothes now:-) What i can say is be patient with your body, forgiving of yourself and STAY away from the scales. Keep us updated and goodluck:thumbup:
  5. I know exactly how you feel. I was banded 10/16 and i followed the instructions- wk liquids- wk more liquids- by week 3 I was soi sick of jello and smoothies- Now I didn;t do any carbs but I started to do meats- chew on them really really well (until almost liquid) and then swallow. End of week three I experienced some pain when i was chewing chiken and it hurt so bad (but that was because I was sooo hungry) that I didn't chew really well. i was scared that the band had slipped. I'm not quite sure what slipping is like but the only other time I experience the pasi was when I had a dry chicken breast and didn;t chew it well other than that I've been fine. I go for my first fill on Wed 11/18 and I will ask the doctor. I'll let you know what happens. Until then hang in there- It's hard to 'digest" true the days get better.

    Post-ops on Pureed Stage

I know what you mean! I was banded 10/16 and on the mushies stage too. Let me be honest- I have “cheated” I haven’t been weighing my food- but end up with a spoon or two and that’s it! I felt the hunger a lot in week two when all I could really have were the shakes and jello so I know what you mean. Week 1 was the best I could barely take anything in. I don’t have a fill right now but I was told that after the fill the goal is to have the same level of satiety in week one which would be amazing. I have lost 13 since surgery. I’ve heard of people that lost 40 but they must not have “cheated” I eat proteins but “puree” them in my mouth before I swallow. If I feel int’s unpurreeable, I spit it out. I think you’ll do better after your fill. Hang in there.
  7. I sarted the process in June and completed visits and all 9/08- I honestly didn't try to change my diet till August- cut out diet soda and my downfall- white rice and bread. My surgery date in 10/16 and I have to start a 2 protein shake and 6-8oz of protein from food and green veggies for at least 2 weeks before surgery - Don't know why but I'm trying to do 3+ weeks ( maybe just to see how much wt I can lose) which is crazy beacuse if I could do that then y do I need to get banded? oh yes I forget- I alwasy fall of thw wagon! I hear the diet is supposed to shrink the liver and allow easy access to insert the band- I justhope my body cooperates with em this time
  8. Hi! i live in the Katy Area. I'm with Aetna and they require 3 months of wt mgmt vists and 2 nutrition visits. So, I completed mine 9/8 and on 9/14 got the call back that Incurance had approved the surgery - so I got scheduled for 10/16. Can I tell you I cried like a baby? Can't say I don't know why , so when the crying was done- I got really nervous and for a week postponed the pre-op. So I have to do AT LEAST 2 weeks of 2 protein shaeks, 6-8oz of protein and green vegetables. So the preop sucks:thumbdown:BUT I don't get hungry! The protein really keeps me satisfied- I definitely wish I had someone that I could go through this with- BUT hang in there the D-Day cometh!
