  1. her plan added an exclusion . If they have excluded it there is nothing she can do . I agree if you can shop different plans then that would be good, see which plan covers WLS . Also BEFORE you pick if you find a plan that covers WLS speak to some of the WLS docs in your area and see if they have had success getting it covered . HTH Mindy
  2. Sorry for the insurance issues. I woudl check into your plan see if they cover it ? As far as waiting ? Im not sure about that . I know someone who switched insurance plans and 4 days later had approval ? I dont think there is a set time ? But someone else might give ya a better answer ? Personally I think i would pay a premium or 2 first LOL Mindy
  3. I know it I would have to write stuff down and look it up . your a novel of info , thank GOODNESS Your here !! Mindy
  4. I dont know how you keep all of these straight . LMAO I remember what these docs have done but i forget who has done what !
  5. Girl 2 weeks is not normal LMAO I would RUN FOR THE HILLS over 2 weeks. Seriously you need to call the doc it sounds like too long and too much to go . Let us know what they say Mindy
  6. I would say that is not normal you need to call . Even when i would go for 4 months w/ out a period yes they would be very heavy but they would not last longer than a week or so . that's too long. I would call your doc asap ! Mindy
  7. If its Vitamins you need you can get them in chew ables. But I dont know about specific potassium ? Mindy
  8. Oh thanks. Honestly I eat what ever i want. BUT I do not eat a lot of carbs And have not since my pre op diet . I have PCOS ( Poly cystic ovarian syndrome ) which is one reason I became obese to begin with . It prevents you from loosing weight . The band is the ONLY way in 10 yrs I was able to lose weight. But Carbs are not good for ppl who have PCOS . So after I was on my low carb high Protein pre op diet I decided it was better to stay off them as much as possible. I cant eat Pasta, bread or rice anyway so its not too difficult. I eat A LOT OF veggies too . I eat a veggie stir fry mix i make for lunch at LEAST 4 times a week . I eat better now than I ever have. But If I want a piece of cake or chocolate on occasion I will eat that. Email me if you want more info on what i eat i'll be happy to tell ya. thanks Mindy
  9. You need to ask your doc which pills you can crush and which you can not , which you might be able to get in liquids, sprinkle capsules or some other form. Different docs have different opinions on when you can and cant take meds or if you have to crush or not . So best to ask your doc . HTH Mindy
  10. There is a difference if you drink even right after a meal . or too soon after a meal . Also there is more to the " no drinking" thing than just the full ness. I drink up until my meal comes . After time this can stretch your pouch . This is my docs reasoning for not doing it. also when i have GOOD restriction , I tried to drink ONCE after I ate something and thought i was going to DIE !! It was THE WORST Stuck EVER ! PAINFUL. So if you have good restriction you WILL only do it once . this is what I did , practiced before surgery for months . It becomes a habit. But here are some tips I used to stop 1. if your at home do not even get a drink when you have a meal . Do not even bring a cup to the table. 2. After eating Set a kitchen timer for 60 mintues , when it goes off then you can drink. 3. if your at a restaurant .. I drink up until my meal comes, when my meal comes I either ask the waitress to take AWAY my cup ( I had to do this in the begining ) or what I do now is ask for a to go cup WITH a top and NO Straw . 4. then write on the cup what time you can drink it (60mintues after you finished your meal ) evenutnally it just becomes a habit and you will start to go "wait i forgot to get a drink " its just a habit you have to break with another habit. HTH Mindy
  11. Yes Before I had WLS I was denied for Migraines AND being Obese. I am pretty sure it had more to do with being Obese than my migraines. If you have insurance your just better off staying with it , because if you go off it for some reason you may NOT get it back . Group insurance is different they pretty much have to take you . Private health insurance is a WHOLE different world , they can and will turn you down for ANYTHING !! mindy
  12. 1-2 pds per week IS Average that is not slow !! dont be so hard on yourselves your doing great !!! Mindy
  13. First your right do not compare yourself to others. Second are you tracking what your eating ? you might not be eating ENOUGH. I KNOW your thinking WHAT ? But its true , I had the same issue right after being banded and my first fill. I went to see my nutrionist and we figured out i was not eating ENOUGH . I was eating WELL below 1000 cals a day . If i get below that even now I wont lose . Try tracking what you eat on Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople for a few weeks even a week and see what you come up with . Also are you walking ? HTH Mindy
  14. If you have health care now I would stick with it. Most private label insurances do NOT cover the band. If the UHC Plan you have does not EXCLUDE the band keep trying with them . they expect you to give up . If its not an exclusion in the policy then something in the paper work is probably not right . What was the reason for the denial ? If you have seen ANYONE for the band it will be preexisting most likely and private insurances will either exclude it or make you wait a yr. I own my own business and NOW can not get ANY Insurance due to being banded. I have to go through the Texas high Risk health pool and pay $400 a month for JUST ME ! So if you have a group plan you might be better off sticking with it. I could not find anyone that covered the band private insurance wise !! HTH Mindy
  15. Have you called your band doc ? How do you get fills ? If you go to someone in the US for fills I would call them . It sounds like you are either too tight or you have acide reflux going on . When was your last fill ? Either way you need to call your doc any doc Mindy
  16. I use to work for a medical malpractice attorney . I was the one that went through medical records "looking" for things that were wrong . If you feel your doc is in the wrong I would suggest you speak to a GOOD Mal Practice attorney . Ask around . See if anyone know's of any good one's. A GOOD Mal Practice Attorney will tell you if you have a case , if the doctor did something wrong . HTH mindy
  17. I have a friend considering going to the Davis' What is their schedule like to get in for fills ? How far out do you have to wait ? Also do the docs do the fills or a nurse or PA ? Mindy

  21. Huggie, Do you have Good Running Shoes ? I was having hip pain at first then went and got really GOOD Shoes and it helped me a lot ! Have you spoken to your doc about the shin pain just to make sure things are ok ? I hope you feel better soon i dont have much help in this area maybe some of the others do . I am on day 2 Monday !! Mindy
  22. This is where the research key ! Sometimes people pick a doc then come on here and find things they find unsettling to them . Thats why its important to research !! Also just because a doc does not have anything bad posted about them does not necessarily mean they are good . By that i i mean a doc could be new and have NOTHING posted about them , does not mean they are "good" . Know what i mean ? Again research is the key ! Mindy
  23. Good advice and I would not need to add anything to it !!
  24. We all love the Wii. My husband HATES video games and plays the Wii. My youngest probably plays it the most he's 7 and he plays Guitar Hero every day . which by the way is a BLAST I even got into that. We also love Tiger Woods Golf. My Dad has probbaly never played a game in his life comes over and we play Tiger Woods golf. I have a 16 yr old sister and she brings her friends over about once a week so they can play it . It really is cool ! The sport games is probably what we play the most of . The kids love them and Guitar hero we have 2 guitars so we can "Battle" LOL Mindy
  25. I really need to join the gym but cant afford it right now so I am going to work on what i have at home. I have a few DVD's , Just gotta get moving again ! Mindy
