    Removal complications

I had my gastric band removed at the end of August. I had been frequently vomiting and couldn't get liquids to stay down. Did barium swallow and the liquid didn't get past the band but there were no signs of slippage. I was scheduled for emergency removal and what had happened was an extremely thick layer of scar tissue had formed around the entire band and stomach and was squeezing my stomach and band closed like a boa constrictor. So band removed, and all the scar tissue was removed from my stomach. I did ok afterwards but the last week or so im having severe upper abdominal pain and lower abdominal pain. It's fairly constant and definately made worse by eating or drinking. I just think it's weird since I'm over a month and a half post op. Has anyone who had a removal had any post OP complications?

    Is anyone else.....?

i go for my first fill today and i haven't weighed myself since my two week post op appt. when they did it for me...i don't even have a scale in the house...after trying other diet plans before, I know I would just obsess over the numbers and get discouraged if i did not do as well as i thought...so it should be interesting to see if i am up or down when they weigh me in today...i've stuck to the diet so i'm hoping for good news...darn the bandster hell...

    Any other TRICARE patients?

I'm tricare prime. Approved within a week. My surgery date is Sept 16...so i'm getting nervy :w00t:...I got the referral to see the surgeon from my pcm end of july...so process has gone very quickly for me...I did have to pay out of pocket for a few things...the surgeon i was referred to has a diet and psych that does not bill insurance, so those appts were 200 ea, and the surgeon would not let me see anyone on base for those. The only other thing I'm spending money on are meal replacements and stuff like that. wish me luck...ive never had surgery and if they made a stronger word for terrified, i'd use it...:w00t:
  4. yeah...you know the whole process seems kind of weird to me...It's my understanding that they won't schedule you for an initial consult until your insurance has approved the procedure...which I don't understand...from what most people are saying on the forums they went ahead with their surgeon consult, psych and nutrition and other pre op requirements while waiting for approval...is it just his office that does it this way...I think things would go a lot faster if you get it all done then just wait for the ok. It's not like you need a referral for the psych or nutrition because they don't bill insurance *irritating*...so you have to wait for the approval...then do all the appointments...I have yet to read of this happening at another office. I called my insurance this morning to check on my referral and they haven't even received the request yet. At the seminar they said they put it through right away...so I don't know...maybe I'm just impatient...I guess I'm lucky that my insurance does not require the 6mo diet or anything like that...much like you, I am just eager to get the ball rolling and get it done already...before I have time to chicken out ...okiegirl, I would love to chat with you...it would be nice to not have to feel like I'm going through this alone so if you send me a private message we can exchange phone numbers or something so we have someone to vent our frustrations (and fears) to
  5. I haven't been banded by him, but I attended his seminar today!...I hope to be banded by October too! That would be awesome. If you ever want to chat let me know
