  1. Thanks, you all are right, I need to avoid the places that cause temptation. Being new at this, I'm really not sure what I can eat yet
  2. Thanks so much for the advise. After I posted this thread, I did more research and found several others who had the same problem and some also said it could be from eating too much, too fast. Since then, he had 4cc removed from his band and has had no pain, but he's also eating a lot more, he'll have to have a lottle more put back in.
  3. My dad had the surgery at age 65, two years ago. He was home (3 hours away) by that night and back at work the next day (PROBABLY not advised) and he did great. He lost about 70 lbs right at first then stopped, then just recently started losing again. For a total of 118 lbs. He's doing great. I'm scheduled for my band in 13 days......yay!!!!!!! Good luck to you. Hope this helped. God Bless.
  4. I'm being banded in 1.5 weeks and just joined this forum. But my dad, who was banded approx 2 years ago started having severe left shoulder pain at the anticipation of eating and after eating. Anybody ever heard of this?
  5. :sad:I'm SOOOOO disgusted with myself. I had my appointment this morning for my EKG and ECHO. When I finally finished-it was lunchtime and I still had a 45 minute drive back to work, I said I was going to stop by the Chinese restaurant and pick up some soup, then I saw the sushi bar and couldn't stop myself, I got a crunch roll. UGH!!!!! I'll start back again for snack and dinner. Anybody have some ideas on what I can eat on a full liquid diet when I need to pick up fast food?
  6. Thanks guys. Being a nurse, you think I'd've realized this. If it had been a patient asking me, I would have had an immediate answer without thinking. But when it comes to myself, my brain stops. Thanks for responding!! I had the scope yesterday, and as it turns out I have H-palori and a small hiatal hernia. The H-palori should be resolved after 10 days of A LOT of EXPENSIVE and quite large capsules, like 3 "horse"capsules 4 times a day. And the hernia, the doc said, can be repaired at the time of my banding if necessary. So, I'm really gald it was done.
  7. Hi Becky-I also have UHC and a BMI less than 40. My BMI was like 37, no diabetes, no high blood pressure. I was so worried I wouldn't get approved. BUT I WAS!!!! The doc's office turned in a record of weights for past 5 years, all less than 40 BMI, some even less than 35. But it showed a gradual increase. He turned in a list of my present diagnose's, which I'm sure most overwieght people experience--cronic back pain, GERD(reflux), MILD Sleep apnea, arthritis, and urinary stress incontinance. Also I reported a strong family history of diabetes and high blood pressure. I dont what the deciding factor was or if the doc's office even turned in the family history. Whatever it was, it worked. My surgery date is scheduled for 8/13/09. Good luck to you. I'm going to reequest you as a friend because I don't want to loose touch. I want to now how things go
  8. My Doc's office called Tuesday and wanted to schedule a gastroscope for tomorrow. This is the first mention of this since the whole process started. Since it was not a nurse who called me I didn't think to ask "why". But, like I told her, I'll do whatever it takes to get me banded. And I know the scope is not very invasive, but was just wondering why. So tomorrow morning at around 10 am, I'll be in la-la-land.:laugh:
  9. Surgery date finally set for Aug 13. The surgery coordinator finally called back today. She'd been out for 4 days last week having her own surgery. All this time I knew I was approved by insurance and could not get anyone to call me back. Don't know any details yet, as far as pre-op goes but I definately have an operating room in Lafayette,La booked for the 13th. How bout that? For most, that would be a "bad luck" day. But 13 has always been my lucky number. Also, my birthday falls on the 13th of May.
  10. CALL THEM!!!! My doctors office told me "the day the claim is submitted, start calling, and call every day." she said to stay on their backs, she said the more you bug them, the faster they want to get you off their back. I called UHC 7 days after it was submitted and found that the surgery was authorized. My doctors office didn't even know yet. then I called my docs office and they called me back and "yep, you were right, everythings a go". now I'm waiting for the surgery coordinater to come back to work from her surgery so we can schedule MY surgery. Hopefully there is someone else there who can schedule, I'm waiting for a call return.
  11. My BMI is 37. I was scared I would not be approved because I didn't have any major co-morbities, such as diabetes or hypertension. My doctors office submitted with co-mobities of DJD(degenerative joint desease),GERD(reflux/heartburn),mild obstructive sleep apnea, depression, and cronic back pain. I called UHC 7 days after things were sumitted and YES!!!!! Iwas approved....just found out yesterday. Waiting for psychiatrist to turn in his report stating I'm mentally stable, and that's not a problem, I passed his little test....if he only knew!!! Just kidding, seriously, but any mom of 4 boys under the age of 7,you have to admit, IS slightly mental. But after he turns in his report,we can set the date.
  12. Hello everyone, I've been reading forums on this site for sometime now and decided to actually join and tell my good news too. I just found out yesterday that my insurance co approved me. I'm just too excited!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am using Dr Gary Stevens in Lafayette Louisiana, about a 45 minute drive from my home. The staff there are the greatest. Waiting on psych eval report then we can set the date!!!!!!!!!
