Where do I begin? I was my perfect weight when I first got married.  I was 185 and a size 10.  Weird huh?  I am big-boned, so I guess that's why.  Anyway, I had 4 c-sections and on bed rest with all 4.  I guess I just got used to eating in bed, not exercising and all around being a couch potato.  I always would look at "large" people and say to myself, boy why can't they just take care of themselves?  It was after my 2nd child that I saw a video of my and my backside, and just about had a heart attach!  That "large" person was ME!
I have a good friend who one day just said to me, "Ruth, what is stopping you from losing weight? Why don't you just look into lap band".  I was really pissed at first, but the more I thought about it, I realized she said that because she cared.  So I asked around and went up to Columbia Missouri.  I'm from Rolla, so it's an hour and a half drive.  Since our insurance wouldn't pay, I went through Surgeryloans.com.  Process was easy, I went to the seminar, set up my first visit.  We did everything in one day, so I didn't have to go back and forth.  It was a long day, but finally over.  On June 30th, I met with Dr James Pitt and my date was set for July 13th.  I can't believe how fast everything came into play.  I have wanted to do this for years, but never got up the guts to do something till my girlfriend said something.
Surgery went realtivley well.  The only problem I had is that I couldn't pee before I left so they straight-cathed me.  YUCK!  Recovery has been normal.  My gas was not in my shoulder.  It's in my stomach, and back.  I'm 5 days post-op and I can finally lay on my side.  I'm so happy I did this! I'm sad, as with most people, that my love affair with food is over.  I see commercials now all the time and want to cry.  I know this is the best thing for me, but until I get on solid foods, I think I will feel down.  Anyway, This was the best experience.  The doctor was great, Sylvia, the Coordinating Nurse, has been fabulous, and my life-line.  The people on this website have been an answer to my prayers.
