  8. I've joined (Kel Sharp) and sent friendship invites to all current members :-)
  9. Same as Sarah, my after care is included in the cost of surgery (although it doesn't have a 2 year time limit).
  10. Congrats Sarah - the gas is giving me a lot of pain/pressure around the sternum as well. Hope you are feeling well.
  11. Hi Everyone, I am now home, just showered and about to go and have a little sleep. The surgery was quick and smooth; I arrived at the hospital at 8am yesterday morning and was on the operating table by 8.45am - my surgeon came in and grabbed my hand and said "I am so proud of you, down 9kg (20lbs) since your consult, are you ready?" and I said "As ready as I'll ever be" and before I knew it I was out cold. I woke up 90 minutes later in recovery, not even realising the operation had taken place; I asked the nurse 3 times if it was over yet before she lifted my gown to show me the incisions to prove to me that it was done. They then gave me a shot of morphine for the pain. I was then transferred to my room at approximately 11am where I dozed on and off for most of the day. By late afternoon I was starting to suffer from pain from the gas, but frustratingly, it took the nursing staff until 8pm that night (and being snarled at by my mother) to get me out of bed and allow me to walk around and use the bathroom, as I wasn't hooked up to a mobile trolley for the IV Fluids. I had a rough night's sleep, the was an elderly lady down the hall screaming out "somebody please help me" and then crying loudly - another patient that had been there for seven nights said she does it all night, every night and whenever the staff go in to help her, she doesn't actually need anything. The staff came in at 4am to check my wounds (why they do it at 4am is beyond me) and asked how I was, I said I was in pain and I was told "that's to be expected" and wasnt given any pain relief. At 8am this morning the surgeon dropped in and told me that everything went perfectly, that the band is sitting in a great position and there were no complications at all. He said I was okay to go home as long as I was keeping fluids down, so I called the nursing staff and asked them to discharge me straight away. I am feeling okay, I have gotten down about 2 cups of fluid since I got home and I'm not really feeling sick or hungry - the gas pains are not nice though, either is the pain around the port... but I just need to be tough, it will subside with time. Thank you for your well wishes x x
  12. updating from hospital bed, in nasty pain from the gas but otheswise okay - will be in touch when I am home x x
  13. Well guys and girls, it is 10pm on Monday night in Australia which means there are only 10 hours left until I need to be at the hospital to be prep'd for surgery. I have a feeling it is going to be a long, restless night but I shall try hard to get some rest... the future begins tomorrow. I am not sure if I can access LBT from my mobile, so until I return, thank you for your support this far... I look forward to sharing the rest of the journey with you all. I must say that I am crapping my pants, however, they say that you never know how strong you can be until you have no other choice... I've got this, lets do it!
  14. Thanks Kate, it's going to be a long night... 10 hours to go!
  15. They insisted on being here to look after me whilst I went through this, which I am grateful for; and I offered to go to the store and get anything they may need to eat here in the house without getting fast foods. I had and still have no intention of 'preparing' or 'cooking' meals for them - I am one day out from surgery and can't eat normal food, why should I torture myself by preparing things that I can't eat? I could have picked up stuff for them to have a salad, or toasted sandwiches or something like that at home - something that wouldn't have driven me mad with the smell. Now I know why I like living alone so much.
  16. my first goal is actually to go through with the surgery, and my reward is a mother/daughter facial at a day spa one week post-op before my mum goes home. I expect most of my rewards to be shopping- related :-D
  17. So, my parents have travelled a LONG way to be here with me for my surgery and they arrived tonight, my brother and his wife showed up for a visit and as 7pm rocked around they all realized they were hungry, so off they go and pick up KFC and bring it back to my house and sit up on the couch and eat it - I excused myself, and here I am on LBT via my iPod whilst I sit in a bath trying to avoid the situation out there. I can't say I am pleased. I acknowledge that other people need to eat but I specifically made a call to my mother yesterday to see what she would like from the store - and the reason I did this was to avoid having people eating strong smelling fast foods in front of me. I made a comment about it and the response was a quickly snapped "well, we DO have to eat" --- yes, they do, but must they make my house stink of KFC? Am I being too sensitive about this, or are they being inconsiderate?
  18. I've just discovered I have a yeast infection under my breasts - I had it a few weeks ago and believed it had cleared. I still have the ointment from the doctor so I am furiously applying it, but I am FREAKED OUT because it is Saturday night and I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. If I do still have evidence of a yeast infection on the day, will they postpone my op??? God, please don't let them postpone the op, I've gone to hell and back arranging for things to run smoothly (parents travelling a LONG way to be here, training a temp to back-fill my position at work, etc).
  19. Good pick up; I had a shower about an hour ago and remembered shampoo etc, so packed some little travel bottles incase I need them. Thankfully I live only 5 minutes from the hospital and will have my parents staying here, so if I do need anything they can grab it for me. That just blows me away that you can be heading in for surgery at 1.30pm and be in the car going home by 3pm - doesn't that scare you a little? I'm kinda glad I'm staying in overnight, if nothing else they can at least be giving me the good drugs. LOL.
  20. Thanks Kris, I'll add lip balm to my list
  21. Hi Kate, I'm so excited for you - it's great to have things underway, huh? Seeing as I am almost at the end of my pre-op diet, my hints and tips are this: If you want to weigh yourself daily, do it - people will tell you not to, but it's your choice. For me, seeing those scales moving south was the one thing that put a smile on my face each morning and made me realise the journey was worth while. Keep hydrated if you can; I'm not a Water drinker and struggled with this. I was so dehydrated they struggled to get blood out of me for my pre-op blood tests. Keep a fibre supplement handy, and use it if things aren't exiting the back door in the correct fashion. It is okay to say "no" to seeing people who you know will make this journey hard; I have a friend who has little consideration, who will drink her coke and stuff her face in front of me and for that reason I've avoided seeing her for these two weeks and have politely explained that I'm sorry but it's just a difficult time for me to be around food. Find a Protein drink that you like - I didn't have a choice on brand, but I did have a choice on flavour and it has made a WORLD of difference just switching from the chocolate to the strawberry. Keep some sugar free gum on hand; you will get funky breath when your body goes into ketosis (and I don't mean funky in the good way - LOL) My number one tip above all else - DON'T OBSESS OVER FOOD - on my first day I became completely obsessed with what I couldn't have, I kept thinking about what I could next put in my mouth, I cried when I got really hungry, I hated myself for crying. The best thing you can do is try your hardest NOT to think about it, plan out what you can have during the day and at those times have that item, and then get on with things. It makes life so much easier. Your first three days are the hardest (and of those, only one of the days was REALLY hard) - beyond that, it's smooth sailing. Go for it Kate... you're going to be awesome! Although you have cleared the house of things you can't have, I did something a little different - yes, I cleared the house BUT I left one can of my former obsession on hand (cocacola). It's been in there the whole time, I've left it there to prove to myself that I am stronger than it is. Every time I go to the fridge, I tell the can of coke that I am winning. It's a power struggle between me and the drink, but I haven't even come CLOSE to caving in. I'm proving to myself that I am ready.
  22. I am not banded yet, but I've heard the occassional nice cold glass of white wine goes down nicely in summer - I'd recommend a sauvignon blanc, night and light ) Red drinkers probably recommend red wine for winter, but I'm not a fan of it personally.
  23. Hi Everyone Well, it's Saturday which means just 3 more sleeps until I go to hospital for my surgery. I know that some of you were in and out on the same day, but my surgeon insists on a minimum one-night stay, perhaps two. As I have never been to hospital before, I am wondering what I should take with me. Do you have any suggestions? So far, my list is: - Two pairs of pyjamas - Dressing Gown - Slippers - Underwear - Tooth brush/paste - hair brush - iPod - Phone I figured I'd wear to the hospital what I plan on wearing home - just some loose sweat pants and a sweat shirt. I only need to travel 5 minutes. I am packing two pairs of pyjamas - my winter pyjamas (pants/top) as I prefer to wear those, but also a night dress in case it is too uncomfortable to wear the winter pyjamas post-op. Is there anything else I should be taking with me? Anything you wished you had while you were there?
