  1. Hello, I was banded on May 14, 2009 by Dr, Ahmed in Lawrence hospital, Bronxville, NY. He is a kind, gentle and very professional surgeon who tells it like it is. When I had my preop appointment with him I went loaded with a ton of questions and he patiently answered each and every one. On day of surgery he came to my bedside preop and held my hand to reassure me. I think he's an awesome doctor and encourage anyone to see him.
  2. Hi there... Good luck on your surgery. He really is a great guy. I'm going in for my first fill today and I'm really excited. Best of luck and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Rosa
  3. Hey Kim,

What's going on? How did the insurance thing go? Did you call?

I'm ok, I kind of stopped losing weight which is weird. I've lost a total of 24 lbs which is good but it's frustrating to not see the scale move when you are eating hardly anything.

I look forward to hearing how you're doing. Are you going to the support group meeting at lawrence on wednesday?

    Let me know

    Rosa

  4. Hi Kim

Well its taken a week but I feel great. I went for my 1 week postop and I lost 18lbs!!!!!! The food is starting to gross me out and I stare at people eat like a starving child but the weight loss is worth it.

Any word from your insurance? I ended up calling myself to find out, why don't you try that.

Good luck with it and let me know.

    Rosa

    First taste of "real" food!

Yes...the magic bullet is a life saver. I puree my food in seconds and you can store the food in the container your puree it in....a must have for us banditos...

    A meal idea

I'm sure I'm the zillionth person who's mentioned this but I'm 5 days post op and I'm SOOOO sick of Soup. I made a scrambled egg white and really made it into tiny pieces then put ketchup on it to help it digest. It worked perfectly and it was pure Protein. Feeling something with texture in my mouth was very nice:tt1:. If anyone has any other "fun" meal idea's please share....I need all the help I can get!!

    Food Diary

Hi, I just read your food diary and was wondering how you're able to fit so much in the day. My meal "serving size" is a medicine dosing cup. How much do you eat at each serving and how often...thanks for helping because today is the first day (banded 5/14) that I'm really hungry.

    May 14th Surgery Stories

Hello everyone, I too was banded on 5/14. I got to the hospital at 8am and was scheduled for 10. They began prepping me at 9:30...blood work, blood pressure, temp, circulation stockings...ect. Around 10 they wheeled me to the OR. I gave my husband a kiss goodbye and that's when it hit me. I started crying and got really scared. They took me to the OR which is a long blue cold hallway. I laid there for 20 minutes alone until someone came out to get me. I was wheeled in and had to slide into the bed. I then made my doctor promise me that I would wake up. Once he promised I felt better. The last thing I remember was the mask over my face. I woke up in recovery and I felt like CRAP. I had to cough so bad but my incisions hurt so bad. They gave me pain meds which knocked me out. I then went into a regular room for about 2 hours and they let me go home. Since I've been home I've been having a hard time breathing. I actually feel the band when I take deep breathes. I called the dr and he told me it's to be expected because it touches the diaphram. It got so painful I called back today and they made me come into the hospital for some tests. They wanted to rule out slippage so I had to take the barrium test. DISGUSTING!! you drink a nasty tasting liquid while they watch it go down via an xray machine. I took lots of blood and a few regular xrays and Thank God everything is ok. I'm still very uncomfortable but I hope that will go away soon. Does anyone else feel their band when they breath?
  9. Hi everyone, I don't know why but I'm super nervous about tomorrow. I have been reading everyone's stories and most of my fears have been relieved but I made the mistake of going onto youtube and watching the surgery. For everyone who's had the surgery how do you feel? Is it just my surgeon or does everyone get an empty band? I won't have my first fill until week 3. Is that normal? Thanks in advance....
  10. PLEASE...we are all dying to know. How did it go? How do you feel? Was is painful?

    Disneyland??

Hi, I had the same thing happen to me. I was finally ready to schedule and they gave me 5/7/09 but I'm due to go on vacation 5/8. I changed the date until 5/14 which seemed great but I forgot about the two week preop liquid diet. If you are going to reschedule take that into consideration, the last thing you want to do is be on a liquid diet at Disney. I say change the date. Let this be your last hoorah and enjoy yourself. May 1st Banders...How did it go?

Hi NF, Just wanted to say hi...you're surgery is the day before mine and we are the exact starting weight. I think it would be fun to follow eachother and see how we're doing..what do you think? Are you on the preop diet yet?? I started on May 1st and it's super hard. Hope to talk soon Rosa:smile2:
  13. I have two kids too...an 11 year old and a 1 year old...I can't wait for the the new me.

    Pre-op diets?

Listen ladies....consider yourselves lucky. I have to do Optifast and ITS DISGUSTING...I swear its like eating chocolate dirt. At least Slimfast isn't that bad tasting. My surgery isn't until 5-14...10 more days and I swear someone is going to get hurt, I'm in a constant state of ANGER ...my poor kids. The upside of it is I went for my preop clearance appointment today and I'm down 3 lbs, not bad for 4 days of pain and suffering.

    Anyone from NYC/Westchester?

Hello, I noticed there haven't been any posts in this thread for some time so hopefully we can start it up again. I live in Westchester and am getting banded on May 14th at Lawrence Hospital.
  17. I'm really nervous about this liquid diet. I think it will actually get me in the "zone" and prepare me both mentally and physically for weight loss. My surgeon told me about a case he had a few weeks back where a man didn't follow the preop diet as prescribed and his liver was so fatty it actually BROKE when they tried to lift it....WHAT?!?!?! Seriously, if that's not a scare tactic I dont know what is. No broken livers here!!!! Well...I'll keep my fingers crossed. Hope everyone has a great day!

    Pre-op diets?

Hello, I just saw your post as I was finishing my first Optifast shake. I was a bit nervous about starting this diet today but after reading your post I am a bit more optimistic. I see we are the same starting weight too (by your ticker) when is your surgery date??
  19. Oh...1 more thing. Why don't you call your insurance yourself and speak to someone about what the requirements are for approval. Do they require 6 months supervised weight loss?

  20. I had a 1pm appt. I was a little annoyed because Dori told me I had to have the Optifast which they sell there for the two week preop diet. WELL...it is $88 a box and I had to buy 2. The shakes are the size of a kids juice box. I didn't realize how much money we had to pay out of pocket....I'm sure it will be worth it though. Have you gone for the psych consult yet??

  21. Hello, From my experience I think they are looking more at your mental status and not so much on your lapband knowledge. There are many people who are emotional eaters and regardless of what surgical intervention they have they still have the psychological problems which prevent the surgery from being a success. We will also go through a lot of emotional changes once the weight comes off, they just want to see if you're sane enough to handle it.
  22. I met with her on March27th for the first time. Once you have your surgery scheduled you will meet with her two weeks before to get the liquid diet and sign consents. You'll also meet the nutritionist to go over pre and post operative diet. I was really lucky to get everything done quickly and had a super easy time with my insurance. The whole process from seminar to surgery date will only be 5 weeks. How did your meeting go with Dr. Silva? I'm using Dr. Ahmed, he is a really nice doctor and came highly recommended. I start my liquid diet tomorrow...SO NOT LOOKING forward to it. I'll keep you posted on how NASTY it is....lol

  23. Yes, I too have Empire Blue. I had my initial consult on 3/27 and have a surgery date for 5/14. I hear that's great, many people have to wait at least 6 months for approval...THANK GOD I DIDN'T!
  24. I wish I could do slimfast. He started me on Optifast 800 for TWO WEEKS! Not only that it is SO EXPENSIVE...27 shakes (the size of kids juice boxes) are $88. Not thrilled, but still excited.
