  1. This might sound extreme, but I would tell them they are never to make comments about your daughter's weight or appearance, but I would also not allow them to spend time with your daughter when you are not there. I would not trust them to not say something stupid, or say something not TO her, but within ear's reach, that she can overhear. Your daughter is in such an impressionable age, and will be for years to come, very sensitive to what other's say about her. Try to build up her confidence by telling her how beautiful she is, encourage physical acitvity and healthy eating, and limit her exposure to #*%heads who might put her down. This is a touchy subject with me, b/c my dad also made me very self-conscious about my weight, even when I was "normal". :angry
  2. I am 5'4" and according to Dr's, should weigh about 130. I've never - even when I was on the high school swimming team - weighed 130lbs. I'm too muscular for that weight. I think 150 is best for me. That's my goal.
  3. My surgeon said I could return to my desk job one week after surgery.
  4. Diane I don't have words that will help, I am just so sorry to read this, and will say a prayer for you. I wish you all the best. :cry
  5. Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!!!! GNC is having a sale on some protein powders; I'm going to check it out tomorrow. Thanks again!
  6. I've been in therapy for almost one year, and for the last 6 months or so we talk a lot about my food issues. I plan on continuing for a long time. My therapist has no special training in eating disorders, just a PhD in Psych. It helps me immensely, since I think 1/2 of my weight issue is psychological.
  7. sugar-free hard candies work for me. I keep the large bag somehwere inconvenient (for me, my garage - it's detached from the house) and just keep about 5 in my pocketbook at a time. RE: Protein - Trader Joes sells some good cab cakes, maybe you can try them? Good luck!
  8. I never knew there were so many Protein drink formulas! My doc recommends Medifast, but I want to use other formulas as well b/c I tried Medifast once and didn't love it. The guidelines are about 100 calories, 12 grams protein, and less than 3 grams of fat per 8 ounces. I prefer lactose-free. Any suggestions? Thank you!
  9. A few times I tried Evening Primrose Oil around the time of my period, and it helped curb cravings and moodiness. I don't know why I stopped taking it.
  10. You could use what some dr's prescribe to their patients to prep for a colonoscopy:http://www.tufts-nemc.org/medicine/gastro/Colon-prep%20Fleet's%20Phospho%20Soda.htm I've used the OTC prep and the prescription prep solution and both are wretched, but both totally clear you out.
  11. For recipes, I really like Weight Watchers' Simply Delicious and Weight Watchers' Make It In Minutes
  12. I've been eating too much ICE CREAM - which I am going to stop, b/c it can still be over-eaten with the band. I need to start writing dates on my calendar for when each stage will begin and end - pre-op liquids, post-op liquids, mushies, etc. Until my insurance gives the ok, I still don't feel it's real.
  13. Congratulations!!!!!!!!! I'm an August bander too - the 17th, pending insurance approval. I wish you all the best~~~~~~~:clap2:
  14. How can I enter my weight loss and goals and other text to appear at the bottom of messages? Thanks!
  15. I'm in almost the exact same situation, except that I was never adamant about not wanting children. Only recently have I questioned it. I've been with my husband for 9 years, married for the past 18 months. I think it's an interesting point in our lives for those of us going through this surgery without children. It's like this second chance to live life for US, alone, maybe with different choices than if we hadn't had the surgery.
  16. Thank you! There is great information there, I didn't see it until you pointed it out. Thanks again.
  17. I'm not banded yet (August) but from what I've seen and heard, there are people who have strong feelings not just about what surgery they have chosen, but about the opposing surgery. Just be prepared. Having said that, I believe there is another study that said after 5 years lap-band and RNY patients had almost the same outcomes. Which jives with what my surgeon told me about lap-band: it's a slower loss, but a steady loss. It's a very personal decision, but for me, I did not want any malabsorption issues (did not want to take supplements forever) and wanted a less-risky surgery.
  18. Thanks Jack! This is a learning experience in so many ways. I like how the word "productive" for once does not have a positive connotation. It speaks to the laid-back beach bum in me.
  19. WOW! That's a LOT of space! Congratulations~
  20. I was wondering if there were any other women who are in their 30's with no children? I'm 35, and maybe would like to have a child one day, but could not imagine being a mom in the shape I am in. Part of my decision to have lap band surgery is that if I am a mom someday I want to be an active one. I'm also glad to have this choice, b/c the thought of being pregnant on top of what I already weigh freaks me out! And then there are times when I'm not sure I want children, and that once I am fit again I'll want to enjoy life child-free. Anyway, if anyone else is in the same boat, just holler!
  21. Ahhh to be in onederland! It must feel FANTASTIC!:clap2: Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!:clap2::clap2::clap2:
  22. You are an inspiration!!!!!!! Congratulations on your success! :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:
  23. Sorry if there is an acronym list somewhere, I looked but couldn't find it. Could someone tell me what NSV and PB stand for? Thanks!
  24. It helped me to read as much as I could about the surgery. I found articles, and read posts on different websites. I went in with questions about the surgeon's experience and about the procedure itself and about recovery. For me, this is a semi-private affair. I have told my husband, my mom, my best friend, my sister, my brother, and my boss. I let them know that this is not public information, and if anyone asks, I have simply been watching my weight. If someone finds out I had surgery, it will be gall bladder surgery. I think the who-you-tell part is a very personal, subjective decision. Best of luck to you!
  25. I really admire your attitude. I am going to take what you say with me when I'm banded in August - to just be patient, and be good to myself. I have a feeling I'll be coming back to read your post again.
