  1. I'm not a nurse or Dr but I would say relax - if it was serious then you wouldn't be waiting to see the Dr until Wed. The fact they have found reflux is clear. They can't see the pouch so maybe you have a slip. But remember a slip is not the end of the world, quite often they can be fixed. It says there is no obstruction to the flow of barium so that is good, at least everything is going through properly. The expected peristalsis means that the food is being pushed through the way it should be. It is not a good idea for Drs to give copies of reports to their patients as what happens is what is happening to you now. You read all this complicated sounding stuff in medical speak and you panic thinking there is something awful wrong. There is a lot to be said for the old fashioned way of doing things where reports were sent from Dr to Dr. Yes we may be entitled to them but it is probably better to only get the copy once we have seen the Dr and everything has been explained to us. Dr Google and his friends can be dangerous and can cause a person to worry more than they need to. Now relax and stop worrying until you have seen the Dr. Hope everything is fine, let us know.
  2. I have often used the wedding analogy in posts and I believe it is very true.
  3. Yes it would be nice to wake up from surgery thin but we all know that it is not going to happen. It took time to put on the weight and it takes time to lose it. I lost most of mine in the first 6 months. Having your band filled in surgery sounds wonderful until you hear some of the horror stories from people that have had that and had issues. Each fill makes a difference and even the band on its own makes a difference. The difference may feel as though it is only slight but if you are sticking to the guidelines and eating less and healthier than you were preop then you should still lose weight even if you don't have what you consider to be ideal restriction.I took Multivitamins initially but have not done for ages. Any kind of complete Multivitamin should be fine. I also do not do Protein shakes so that was not a problem for me. It is perfectly possible to get sufficient protein from a regular balanced diet. It won't be long and then you will be looking back thinking "wow I can't believe I have been banded for ______________ already" .
  4. I agree with Jean. Most likely scenario is a pulled stitch. And as she says you should call your Dr.
  5. I think it's fixed now.
  6. Most pills go down easily. Just take them with a big mouthful of water and you will be fine.
  7. A pain in the centre of the chest usually indicates that something is stuck or that you have eaten too much. What are you eating? At 2 weeks out I was on mushies but every Dr seems to have different postop requirements so you may be on something different. You need to make sure that you take small mouthfuls, chew well, wait between bites and do not overeat. Maybe you are eating foods that you should not be eating yet and these may be causing the pain. If you can give us examples then we can probably give you a better response.
  8. Lots of people here will be more than happy to do that. So go ahead ask your questions.
  9. You don't need to get your band out if you get pregnant. However you may need your band to be partially or completely unfilled for part of the pregnancy. You will need to work closely with your Dr to ensure that your band is at the correct level for both you and baby to get optimum nutrition. But that is part of the beauty of the band, the fact that you have options. If it needs to be unfilled it can be whereas other types of WLS are not as adjustable.
  10. I had my band at the same time and have also had some issues with acid reflux. It probably started about a month before Christmas. It wasn't every night but there were quite a few where I would wake up coughing, choking , with a sore throat.I got Nexium from my GP but it still happened. The strange thing was I was not too tight, if anything my band was loose. I could eat just about anything and was getting hungry sooner than I should have been. I was not eating late, was not eating spicy foods or other trigger foods and have no idea why it was happening. I had an issue a month ago where I got stuck on steak(because my band was so loose I thought I could eat anything) that culminated in me having most of my Fluid taken out. I was at 6ml and they took out 4ml. I have since had another 2ml put back in and am scheduled to see for Dr in 2 weeks time. I am starving and feel like I have no band which is horrible. However the reflux has all but gone. So that would seem as though the band was too tight but if that was the case then why was I able to eat so much, get hungry quickly etc. It doesn't make much sense to me. I have to say though I did have 1 episode about a week ago where I woke up choking and have no idea why. I cannot say that i ate any later that day or ate something different to usual that would have been a trigger.
  11. Maybe your band has tightened for some reason. Stress, dehydration, hormones? You should probably go and see your Dr so that he/she can check everything is OK.
  12. I was going to reply to this topic yesterday when it was first posted but at that point I was unable to reply to any threads. My thoughts on what I was going to post at the time were:- That it is wonderful that the OP had a made a decision about WLS that suited her. That she must be visiting and reading a different sleeve forum to the one I read. When I read stuff on that forum yes there are a lot of happy people BUT there are also a heck of a lot of people that have had complications, especially leaks. This is in a very small group of people. There are a number of people that have had serious life threatening complications which seems to be very rare on this band forum. There are also a number of people that are struggling with issues such as hunger, food intolerances etc. And I think that the majority of sleevers have to take an acid reducer as a matter of routine because the incidence of reflux especially initially is very high. I think what this proves is that a person gets out of something what they want. The OP is looking for confirmation that her choice to have a slleve is the correct one so she reads the sleeve board and sees a positive message. I don't want a sleeve unless I have no choice, to me having so much of your stomach removed is scary so when I read the forum I focus more on the negative. I am sure neither is right nor wrong. However this issue has of course become very contentious and understandably so. You have to question the motives of someone that comes onto the band board just to post about how much better the sleeve is. And for some reason people that have decided to get the sleeve do this all the time. One wonders what sort of reaction we would get over on the sleeve board if we did the same thing. I am sure it would not go down well.
  13. And so you should. Having a band doesn't mean depriving yourself for the rest of your life. It is about better control and choices. A little bit of what you fancy does you good and helps you to stay on track. ENJOY
  14. Before I got banded I went along to a support group. There was a guy there that was really inspiring. He had told by his Dr that he had to do something or he would be dead within 3 months. He had diabetes, alcohol issues and other health problems. He got his band and continued to inspire everyone at meetings. He lived life to the fullest. Went on a number of cruises and was one of the few people that actually lost weight on a cruise. He was so excited when he could fit into a pair of speedos. In total he lost over 60kg. His health improved dramatically. He never ceased to be an inspiration. Sadly he passed away suddenly earlier this year. The positive here is that he did extend his life by over 3 years and he lived those 3 years to the fullest. Without his band he probably would not have managed to see so much of the world and have such a wonderful time.
  15. It does. WEIRD. I wonder what has changed. I am still using the same computer as I normally do so it doesn't really make sense. At least now I can comment again . Thanks - it was driving me nuts. Hopefully Alex and the admins can fix the problem properly soon.
  16. OK testing to see if that works.
  17. For the past couple of days I have been unable to post to any thread. I type and hit post and then it just hangs. I have tried clearing my cache, using google chrome instead of safari but nothing helps! It is driving me mad. I hate being able to read stuff but not comment.

  19. There are a number of people that continue to have shoulder pain ( usually left) . It is thought to be caused by some part of the band or tubing putting pressure or rubbing on the vagus nerve. If you do a search on this site you should find quite a lot of threads about this issue. Some people seem to manage to live with it whilst for others it can become unbearable and they may need further intervention to help correct it.
  20. No Toddy, you are 100% correct.
  21. Reading the recent articles about The "Baloney Mass Index" it seems I may still be obese. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-04-04/baloney-mass-index-putting-lives-at-risk/3932090 I am 5' and 51kg. My BMI is well within the healthy range but I am still an apple shape not a pear shape. I still and always will carry my excess weight around my middle. "You could be 5'5", 125 pounds [57 kilograms] and look thin and fit in a dress, but you have so much fat. For someone like me who is obsessed about my weight as it is that was the last thing I needed to hear. My stomach has always concerned me and now it seems rightly so. Although on the other side I have been told by my Dr that it is normal to have some weight around the middle, that it is healthy and that my weight is fine. So what is a girl to do? Ignore the media? Keep stressing? Go on a starvation diet? Have lipo to have it sucked out as that is the only way it will be lost from the correct place? Have a tummy tuck " Maybe the answer is to switch off the TV/Radio/Internet and just become a media recluse. How does this news make the rest of you feel?
  22. This isn't true. It is possible to get stuck when following the rules. I have been sitting at the table, eating slowly, chewing well etc and still managed to get stuck.
  23. Jen if you can barely eat a few bites then you are too tight. If you are sliming when you drink then it is pretty obvious that you are too tight. You need to go for a small unfill, if you don't you could be setting yourself up for some serious problems . Also as you have found out when you are too tight you don't actually lose any weight.
  24. What do you mean by you are not feeling any restriction? Are you eating smaller portions than previously? Do they keep you satisfied? Are you losing weight. if you can answer yes to these then you do have "restriction" If you are not losing or you are struggling with hunger(not head hunger) then you may need another fill, that is something you should discuss with your Dr
  25. Gall bladder problems are common with weight loss. It doesn't matter how you lose the weight. Sorry that you had to go through the pain and the removal but you are certainly not alone. As to the prolapsed bladder I have never heard of that being related to weight loss and I would seriously question if that is indeed the true cause. Do you have children? Being pregnant and giving birth is the usual cause of a prolapse. There is no way you can sue your lapband Dr. If a lawyer advised you that you could I would be very wary - the lawyer is probably just after your money. Not being American I do not understand the culture of sueing for every thing that goes wrong. Sometimes we need to accept that things happen and that it isn't anyone elses fault. I hope that your insurance co pay and that you are able to solve this problem ASAP. Have you being advised to do Kegels? This is something most women are advised to do to stop this problem occuring although I confess that I have never done them. Good luck
