lapbands and relationships
Sarah, even though you may be in "virgin territory", (nice pun, btw ), you hit the nail on the head. People get really insecure when their SO loses weight. They feel at though they may be lost with all the extra weight. The only thing you can do is to reassure them and have very, very open communication about your experiences together. I cannot believe someone's marriage ended over weight loss! I see how a dating relationship could, but you'd think people would feel more secure when there's a ring involved!!!

banded yesterday and feelin just fine!
You are TOO cute! (Your words AND you!) I never read posts that long, or at least rarely, but as I'm going in for surgery Monday morning, I'm looking for others experiences to give me a "heads up"! How is life with the band now?

What's a good way to meet a guy? Do guys actually like bigger girls?
I havent read through this whole thread, but I did want to put my two cents in. The guy I dated for five years had always dated skinnier chicks before me. I was 180 when I started dating him back in April 2000, but thanks to Depo Provera (the birth control shot) I gained all the way up to 270 before we broke up and then 306 before I started my pre-op diet. The girl he dated/had a kid with after me is also definitely a "bigger girl". Apparently, once you're attracted to a particular type, that becomes the model of comfort for you and you subconsciously seek it out! I prefer lean guys, not scrawny, but I've had a crush on a "chubbier" guy as of late. I dont know what it is, but chubbier guys tend to have the BEST sense of humour! My friend Chris was a "fat kid" and lost a lot of weight working for Fedex. Now he runs and is all muscular, but still has that same sense of humour. That's my absolute favourite in someone!!! :3 Oh, but every single guy friend I have likes their women ample in back with a nice round belly. Not an overly fat belly, but a round one that they can nestle into, you know? Rock hard abs are only nice to look at- not nice to get close to.

College Students Report Here!
I guess I'll dive into the college thread! Hey Bikini- I saw the Smashing Pumpkins October 8th! It was really, really awesome. I got a little more star-struck seeing Billy Corgan than I thought I would, though. I'm set to graduate in May, but if I have my way, I'll be a college student for quite some time. Hoping to go to law school in the fall, even though I haven't applied anywhere just yet. I'm a little slow-going on taking the LSAT and everything. I'm also a Religious Studies major with a minor in Anthropology. Started out as a major in Anthro, but then realized I was attracted to religion because it's the way in which nearly every culture explains the world around it! Just fascinates me a lot! :3

Holy pre-op diet BATMAN!!
Whatever, Blockbuster isn't Satans Den! I love movies, from ANYWHERE. But if you have a VisArt near you, they're awesome. I LOL-ed at that "sexy liver" comment!!! I go in to get banded Monday morning (it's not Saturday night and I'm babysitting). You beat me! What a punk! I've lost 15 lbs but it took me 10 days to get there! I havent weighed myself again, cos I'm waiting til Monday morning before I leave for the hospital to weigh one last time. :3 Anyway- good work! How's the band going for ya?

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 23 Female from NC with 135 lbs. Looking for a similar age match!
Hello! I had a buddy when I did Weight Watchers in the past and loved the system. We would actually hand-write each other letters and send one another fun-filled packages to keep us inspired and excited! Just a little about me, I guess-- I'm a 23-year old libra, finishing up my fifth (second year as a senior) year at the local university with my BA in Religious Studies and a minor in Anthropology. I'm hoping to go to law school next fall, though I've yet to apply. I enjoy drawing, reading, photography, watching movies, etc. My Meyers-Briggs is an ENFP: Extrovert Intuitive Feeling-Based Perceptive. If you're a spunk 20-something looking for a Band Buddy, I'd love to hear from you! Please respond here so others can see that I've had response, but also shoot me an email to doodleallday@gmail.com! <3 Molly

suicidal thoughts
:cursing: I would strongly recommend seeing a psychiatrist as soon as possible. You need to be emotionally stable and chemically balanced before embarking on such a dramatic weight-loss journey. I can only hope that the threat of losing that relationship is not related to your weight. If it is, you seriously need to end it yourself because you deserve FAR MORE than some jerk who has a problem with a couple extra pounds could give you! I just have trouble comprehending how someone could have suicidal thoughts about the potentiality of a relationship ending. Unless the relationship itself is highly unstable, it seems a little weird to anticipate your personal demise at the unforseen end. I dont know what you're going through, but I can tell you that I never thought I'd learn to sleep on my own, be on my own, or even breathe on my own if my SO left me. We had dated April 30, 2000 until he broke up with me on a Couples Camping Trip (perfect timing, NOT!) June 2, 2005. It took me a year and a half to recover, and probably a full two years to fully recover. I still battle with the residue of the emotional abuse for 4 of those 5 years we dated. I'm talking there were no pet names- he preferred calling me stupid and a dumb*ss. :rolleyes2: Not to mention, he refused to dance at prom, my mother had to PAY for our tickets and his Goodwill "suit" and my corsage, and never celebrated a single Valentines Day. :tt1: So yeah, I understand emotional abuse. You have GOT to get out of it if that's the case. And if that's not the case, I would also suggest couples therapy because the level of codependency when someone would consider killing themselves if the other left is NOT healthy. AT ALL.

Pre Op Diet help please
I'm on Day 6 and still experience hunger every 2 hours. The only thing that really helps is being allowed 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, which I eat while drinking a glass of skim milk.

Any December '08 Bandsters?
December 15th @ 7:30am, performed by Dr. Keith Gersin @ Carolina's Medical Center Mercy. :3 I'm SOOO excited!!! Already had my first nightmare about it. In the dream, I had to take two exams (I'm a full-time college 5th year student) and failed them both with a 60. Gersin wouldn't perform the surgery, so he called my parents in to interview them seperately. When it finally came time for me to get the results, I went into the office (which morphed into my parents bedroom) and he was laying in bed, asking me to turn out the lights. I was ENRAGED, in my hospital gown and panties, all ready to go. I thought perhaps he wanted to see some passion, to see that I really cared about the procedure, so I started screaming and carrying on about how I'd just gone 14 days without eating (remember, I'm dreaming) and how there's no way in heck I would leave without a band!!! LOL! Anxieties much? Yeah...

Day 6 of 14 Pre-Op Diet
I'm new to the boards, so pardon if it's abnormal to have noobs post right away. Just thought I'd drop by and ask for support when it comes to the pre-op diet. I'm on Day 6, but it's darn near impossible to have my carbs below 100. This is the diet plan I have to follow: (1) <1300 calories (2) 90-120 grams of whey Protein (3) <100 grams of carbohydrates I've yet to consume under 100 carbs. How is this done?! Also, my second question: I hate shakes. They're thick and syrupy and gross. I love Isopure, on the other hand, but they're $4.69 a pop or $49.99 for a case of 12. Do you think I'd get the same effect mixing Protein powder with Propel or diet snapple? Thx in advance! My mother got the surgery March 11th and has gone from a size 24 to a voluptuous 8! She's my hero!!!

No pre-op die?
My pre-op diet is 14 days with the following requirements: (1) <1300 calories (2) Between 90-120 grams of whey Protein (3) <100 grams of carbohydrates I'm allowed Clear liquids and full liquids. Basically, protein shakes, cream of chicken Soup, fat-free pudding, sugar-free Jello. I can also have steamed veggies sprayed with FF Parkay butter or veggie salad with FF dressing. Finally, once a week I am allowed 3-4oz. light, lean meat. I'm on Day 6. It's HELL. But I'm trying to stay positive.
