My thyroid is under control FINALLY!! he also told me that lapband was a possiblillity but he wanted me to try some other things first. He wants me to go back on weight watchers and get into an exercise class. i have another appointment in july he wants to do blood work for other things and switch my birthcontrol and he wants to see from there what happens. Im excited!!!!

  3. Wow all this is encurraging! that is one of my big worries- that something will go wrong and I will be there for DAYS!!!
  4. I know it's been awhile, and I am ashamed that I haven't gotten farther than I have. I switched Doctor's to one that will be more aggressive about getting my thyroid under control, but other than that I haven't done much! I started my spring semester this week :nervous the semester is 6 weeks, and there is just so much to do, I dont think college will ever be normal, its always going to overwhelm me!!! But its no excuse I need to get going with my surgery.

  6. For me, at a size 6 or 8 I think I would be all bones... I have a big frame, In all honesty no one beleives me when I say I weigh 260 lbs. They just dont believe I weigh that much. So I think I would look best at a 10 or 12. I dont wanna be thin anyway I wanna have a little bit of fat left!! I guess Ill see when I get there though!!!:grouphug:
  7. Thanks everyone! I needed a little reasuring.
  8. I am just curious if there are any people out there that have been banded and lost the weight, but then gained it back even though they were still banded? Is it common for someones stomach to strech that much?
  9. Yea, It just upset me, Today was a better day! Im back to being overly excited!!
  10. Today when I went to work I was in a good mood. I told one of my managers about me wanting to have lap band... and she got upset and told me I was too young and I would just regret it. It really upset me because I am determined on this and she just set me back. She said that she knew people that have had it done and she said my stomach will just strech around the band and the people that have had it done that she knows just gained the weight back and more. I have to go tomorrow to get my referal to a specialist and I have to call my insurance company to see if they cover the surgery. I just havent had anyone tell me it was a bad idea yet and it really hurt! I was so excited and she just wrecked it all today:help:. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!! good night

  12. I am still under my moms insurance because I live at home. We have Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO, I havent talked to them yet, Im still trying to switch to a doctor that is going to be a little more aggressive about getting my thyroid under control, I have had an increase in my dose every 3 months for almost 3 years, and my doctor just doesnt seem to be caring as much as I'd like her to. so I am still not sure where i stand with all that
  13. Well, I usually do not go online very often, I work a 35 hour week, go to school full time and then the rest of it i enjoy being with other people doing things that are physically active. And Im still overweight!! I can honestly say that I usually dont spend more than 2 hours a week on the computer...so its not that. And being on this forum seems to help a lot of people, with out the support I know that I wouldnt be so determined to have my surgery!
  14. Linda- that website helped a lot! thanks!!
  15. ladysplenda- I am also 18, if you dont mind me asking, what insurance company did you and your daughter use and what was your daughter Amanda's BMI and weight? I am at a BMI of 41 and weigh 264. I also have ankle, knee and hip joint pains.
  16. I havent even started the process, and Im nervous!! But I know it is all worth it in the end! I can't even imagine how happy I will be when I can fit into a size 18 even, let alone a size 12! And knowing all my hereditary health problems will be out of view! No worrying about Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, and maybe my thyroid will catch back up and work a little more so I can stop doing all the medications!! Thats the way I think of it, no matter how hard it will get I always think In the end I will be so happy I did this for myself! And i cant wait to here how everything goes for you you can do it!!! just think after the first few weeks you wont be so grumpy anymore!!! be positive and everything will come out wonderful!
  17. I know this will sound really stupid comparing the two things, but this is my theory!! Today I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I told myself that if I got through it alright and there wasn't TOO much pain that I was going to get serious about doing the lap band surgery! My thought process was that It is more invasive yes, but it doesnt seem by much to me, and the Time that I would be under anashesia will be similar, (hopefully) also I will get a small taste of the liquid diet, and then slowly getting back on solid foods. So after the surgery today, I got home took one of my codines, and went to bed, when I woke up there was no pain just a little pressure but no pain. I think this is somebodies way of telling me that I was right and I do need to do this! I have to switch my doctors, because I know the one I have wont even consider helping me, but once I find one I will be right on my way! And for once Im really excited about this! But my meds are kicking in on me so i think im gonna go to sleep FINALLY!!! Night night:notagree

  19. Thank you very much! Its really nice to know that there are other people that are so helpful when others are in need. I was so amazed when I saw this forum because I have never seen so much support before! I love them too! I have a 2 year old beagle named Badger, Im kind of weird I treat him like my kid. Imagine that he is overweight to haha! Thank you agian!!:biggrin1:
  20. I am also new to all this. I plan to go through my insurance and I was wondering what the average time period was from the first Dr's vist until the surgery day? Amanda
  21. Hello Everyone! I am almost 19 years old, and I have always been chubby when I was 14 I weighed 180 but I always have held the weight well. No one would really be able to tell that I currently weigh 264 pounds, but I do. I always knew I was overweight, but then my thyroid levels started to change and i gained 80 pounds in 4 months, and it has just continued to go up since then. I am on medicine but the weight just DOES NOT want to come back off me. I have tried everything in the past 5 years. I tried the low carb diet and it worked for about 6 months, and then I just started gaining weight back agian, no matter how hard I tried. Exercise helps me loose inches, but I had a steady rutiene for about 5 months, and I couldnt even loose 5 pounds. So to me this is something that I am pretty intreseted in. I would be happy back at 180 but my ultimate goal would be 140 pounds. I havent started talking to doctors about having the lap band surgery done yet, Im intrested in finding out as much information from others as I can to make my decision first because once I decide I am going to stick with it. So if anyone knows something that could help I am always open for the new information!! Amanda
