  1. That is a long wait after insurance approval. You might want to consider another surgeon or hospital. The waiting would make me crazy as well. Good luck on trying to get in sooner!
  2. Congratulations on your date! I am 8 days out from surgery and am on just a 1000 calorie diet so I cant help you with any advice on the liquids. Good luck and hang in there!
  3. People are cruel that is true. I am just fortunate to not have many of those around me right now which is a blessing. I have told everyone I work with and they are all on the countdown with me. I work in the medical field so maybe this is a little easier for them to all comprehend. I have support from everyone around me and have been fortunate enough to not have any negatives so far. I know there will come a time that I do hear those things but its only because those people arent comfortable with who they are. I am happy for all of us on here making this decision. The only one who has to like the decision is ourselves. Congrats and good luck to everyone!
  4. I think as surgery gets closer we all wonder and worry somewhat. You are right that it will take a lot of determination to defeat the old habits we have. Being aware of the issues now will help you in the future. Maybe before you eat think of why you are eating and if you are eating for the right reason. Good luck on your journey. We are all here to support each other!!!!
  5. I just received my pre-op diet information from my surgeon and she is very liberal with her diet. She allows you only 1000 calories and you can get that however you want. So that makes it a little easier just have to count the calories. I also only have to do this for one week. I am still scheduled for surgery January 15 as long as everything goes alright.
  6. Hello and welcome to the group! You will find lots of support and great advice on this site. I love this site and try to visit everyday. Good luck on your journey and I wish you the best!
  7. Your emotional issues after surgery are due to your estrogen levels fluctuating per my doctor. She said she sees lots of patients who has this and she prescribes an estrogen patch to wear so that it will help with the ups and downs. Something you might want to call and ask your doctor about. I told her to give me one preop since I can be emotional already and she said that she would.
  8. When I had my gallbladder surgery in April of 2007 I too suffered the same shoulder pain. Fortunately, mine only lasted the day of surgery and then I was fine. I explained this to my surgeon at my consult appointment so maybe she will take that into consideration when she does my LapBand surgery.
  9. I went to my surgeon on Nov 25 and she thinks I will be ready to have surgery on January 15. So add another one to the January 09 group!!!!!
  10. I went to the Lap Band seminar and my doctor told me there is a way to defeat every weight loss surgery. So yes the band can help you but it cant do everything for you. You will have to work with it. Good luck and I wish you well!
  11. I am not a Kaiser patient but from the Central Valley in California. When I went to my PCP and asked her about having the surgery she sent me for my labs that day so that when I went to my surgery consult everything would be done for the surgeon to look at. I am not surprised they are sending you for blood work now.
  12. Yes everyone is different with laprascopic surgery. I had my gallbladder done in April 2007 and I did wonderful. I was on paid meds for one day and then no more after that. I am excited to get my lapband and am not too worried about the pain. If you have a high pain tolerance you should do well. I have had friends who don't have high pain tolerances and they did just as well. So good luck!!!!!!
  13. I would suggest going through with the surgery and once he sees your determination and sucess he will probably be there for you. As for the down time for missing work I have heard its pretty minimal depending on what you do for work. I am only scheduled to be off work for 2 days with my surgery as long as all goes well. Good luck and keep us posted!
  14. I too am hoping to be a early 2009 bandster! I have been through the seminar and visit with my PCP. The Surgeon consult is Nov 25. I am hoping for the middle of January if possible. I am so excited to finally be closer to the end of this journey. So looking forward to sharing and hearing experiences from my fellow 2009 bandsters!!!
  15. I went to an information seminar on October 14 and then met with my PCP on October 24. I now have a consult with the surgeon on November 25. Sometimes it seems like forever to get the process going but once its going then time flies!!!!
  16. :smile2: I am beginning also. I went to my seminar on October 14, met with my PCP on October 24 and now have an appointment with the surgeons office on November 25. I work with medical billing and know how long things take to get approved with insurances. I have talked to my insurance company in advance to get some questions answered and they were very helpful. Good luck to you!
