I was at my wits end when it came to losing weight.  I was 100+ pounds overweight and seemed to be steadily climbing.  I was so afraid of ending up with Diabetes like my dad and two of my sisters.  One day my primary care physician suggested me thinking about getting the Lap Band.  I had never heard of that.  He told me to google it and let him know if I was interested.  Not only was I interested, I went to a couple of seminars and nutrition classes with my family so they could understand what was involved in the surgery.  The first surgeon I saw wanted an extra $2500 to use his gym - this had nothing to do with the surgery whatsoever.  I saw my cousin in the store (she had gastric bypass), and asked who her surgeon was.  She said Dr. Singh.  I got his number from her and called the office.  The next thing I knew I was on my way to getting Lap Band surgery.  I was a little apprehensive at first at the thought of a foreign object being surgically placed in my body, but i went on you tube and many other sites to see how a surgery was performed.  My family and I then discussed the surgery with Dr. Singh and he said there was a minimal percentage of failure rate.  I then had to go on a diet for 6 months, see a nutritionist and a psychologist.  The psychologist let me know the reason was to make sure I wasn't being pressured into losing weight by anyone.  The nutritionist basically gave me a diet sheet for preop and postop.  Now it was time for the surgery.  On surgery day, I was kind of nervous of the unexpected.  I went to St. Agnes Hospital where the nurses took very good care of me.  They were very nice, also.  My family spent the night with me.  The first night was really weird.  I could only have liquids at this point.  The next day I went home and my journey started.  The first two weeks were okay with the liquids, but the vitamins didn’t go down too well, I had to crush them.  There was hardly any pain, only the five small incisions (I call them bullet holes).  At the third week I started what was called the pureed stage.   This stage was a little more interesting as I tried baby food, applesauce, yogurt, etc.  Somehow I made it through to the regular food stage and have been doing good ever since.  The only piece of advice I would give would be to LISTEN to the doctor, he is the expert – he knows what he is talking about.  Do EVERYTHING he tells you to do and you won’t have any problems.
