  1. hahaha I'm actually REALLY bad at exercising. unless you count work as exercise(I do!). I work in a store where I have to run around heavy clothes all day. so are you going to be self-pay or do you think your insurance will help?
  2. hey I'm also in college. I got my band during winter break and so far so good. Social life is good after the band, although a lot of people wonder why I don't eat very much. normally i just laugh at them when they tease me about being annorexic and tell them that I love food too much to be annorexic. if you have any questions about the band I would love to help out and answer them!
  3. ok so I had my surgery on december 12, 2008. Since starting the pre-op liquid diet I've lost 80lbs. I've lost a little over 100lbs since starting the 6month diet my insurance company put me on last may. after surgery I was on liquids for 1 month then onto pureed foods for another month. Finally I could start on solid foods 2 months after surgery. I eat a little bit of everything. I normally eat a lot of Protein just because that's what I prefer and it seems to be the easiest to eat. Vegetables tend to get stuck really easy. My doctor told me to stay away from milk because it doesn't give you that full feeling. Instead I like to eat cheese and wheat thins if I'm feeling snacky. As for exercise I've been really bad. I really don't exercixe outside of work. I work at a dept store and my job is to run carts. this means a lot of running around with heavy clothes. It's exhausting!
  4. I was sleeping in our recliner for the first week after surgery because I was so sore but eventually the pain went away and I can now sleep however I want and it's fine.
  5. don't worry! It's definately scary going in but getting this surgery is the best thing I've ever done for my health. I feel better every day. Don't forget these things on surgery day. -gas-x -a pillow to hold over your stomach after surgery. It will feel soooooo good! -wear slippers to the hospital. - if you're a girl wear a sports bra. -wear comfortable pants with a stretchy waistband. -buy liquid tylenol. - find a protien shake that you love I can't think of anything else right now but if you have any questions about lif with the band I would love to help!
  6. when I plateau it normally means that it's time for a fill. But I do also re-evaluate what I've been eating.
  7. how did your fill go? are you feeling better restriction. when I was at 3cc's I didn't have any restriction either so don't stress. I don't really remember when I started to feel restriction but now I'm at 7.5cc's and I definately feel it!
  8. My motivation is to be able to do things that everyone else my age can do. -buy regular sized clothes. -be able to ride roller coasters without having to worry if I'll fit. -be able to run a mile. there are so many things that motivate me I just can't think of them all right now. My goal weight is to be 170. I'm 5'10 and I don't want to be super skinny, I want to still have my curves. My doctors thinks that I will get down to 150. I would love to reach goal in the next year and definately think I can do that!
  9. pattijo. I know it's hard to get a hold of Dr. Fox but he really is an amazing surgeon! He is so supportive. and his office will bend over backwards to get your insurance to pay. Here is a website that has other reviews of Dr. Fox. Bariatric Surgeon Profile - Earl R. Fox and his number is 509-943-0710.
  10. hahaha thanks guys! that's 99lbs from starting the 6 month diet I had to do before surgery. I started that may 2008. My surgery weight after the liquid diet was 285. and cordovachick I'm sure you will start loosing again soon. when do you get your next fill?
  11. I was banded on 12/12/08. Highest - 324 lbs. Current - 225 lbs. Goal - 170 lbs. I've had 2 fills. I'm at about 5.6cc's in a 10cc band. I'm going to get another fill on the 5th. I've had REALLY good restriction because my swelling from surgery isn't going down as fast as most people. But I'm not at my sweet spot. I have some progress pictures on my profile if you want to see them.
  12. a take a liquid vitamin D suppliment. but I take flinstones for my multi vitamin. I need better vitamins though because I'm loosing my hair. hahahaha
  13. first of all everyone looks AMAZING!!!! here are a few things I made today. I'm offically down 98lbs.
  14. yeah I didn't tell all of my friends. I think some of them think I'm anorexic but I tell them that I'm just being better about portion sizes. hahaha
  15. ok so I'm bad I probably go out drinking about once a week with friends. well before the band I could drink a TON before I felt it. now I'm the biggest light weight EVER. I normally have about 3 cran vodkas and I'm done. Eating is a little tough. I haven't told all my friends about my surgery and I think that they think I'm anorexic. They are constantly teasing me about how I can't finish anything I order. hahaha but I'm so glad I did this now instead of later.
  16. here is one NSV I've had. About a month ago I went over to my friends house. I hadn't seen her boyfriend since right before my surgery. well the next day when I saw my friend she said that after I left she over heard her boyfriend calling his friends and saying "oh my god sarah was over and she looks completely different! she looks really good!". It's always nice to hear what people say about your weight loss when you're not around! hahaha
  17. I think it's normal for the process to go really quick but that wasn't the case for me. I had all the testing done but my insurance said that I had to do a 6 month diet first. by the time I was done with that I had to re-do all my testing. My insurance did finally approve me though.
  18. yeah don't stress the psych eval they basically want to make sure you have realistic expectations.
  19. some NSAIDs are fine on the stomach. I'm perscribed celebrex by my lap-band doctor.
  20. I'm just shy of having lost 100lbs(I can't believe it!) so I thought I would post some collages I made!!!!
  21. I love my band! I also didn't know which way to go but I'm really glad I went with the band. The deciding factor was that if I get pregnant I don't have to worry about malabsorbtion and I can get an unfill so that I can get enough food. Also with bypass your pouch can stretch and you can't do anything about it. With the band if you lose restriction you just get a fill. As for the sweets you probably wouldn't be able to get full off of them because they would go right through your port. you need to choose foods that stick in your pouch so that you don't get hungry.
  22. I wasn't hungry until I started eating mushie foods a month after surgery.
  23. my doctor is really agressive so when he put in the band he filled it to 3cc's and I had my first fill on friday and he added another 2.75cc's so now I'm at 5.75cc's and I have good restriction. but last week when I still had just the 3cc's I really didn't have too much restriction.
  24. If you feel like you want to chew something just chew on some gum. it really helps
